I've just been watching an old movie....'Crash Dive'...some of it really.
It shows an American submarine operating between Newfoundland and Greenland in early 1940's .I was surprised as I did not think any US subs were ever in this area.............Am I wrong?

I would immagine american submarines were all over.

American submarines did operate briefly in the Atlantic Theater such as in support of Operation Torch and in attacks on Axis blockade runners. However, due to lack of targets they were eventually transferred to the Pacific. By May of 1943 US submarine involvement had almost ceased in the Atlantic except for training and sea trials of new subs
