Ah takes the fun out of trying to read a map at the same time as drive, or better yet having your wife read the map while you are trying to drive.
Saying that some of the SatNavs I have listened to squak even worse when you ignor e a direction...
Still, I love gadgets so I will get one. One day, once they go 3d topographical at a decent price.

And sending him a bit nuts (don't do this at the world cup)

You could always go for the "cheaper" option Xabba.
Not exactly a SatNav, but it does the job....
A Motorolla A1000 with NHGPS software.

Basically its a PDA style mobile that has an AGPS function built in. The NHGPS allow you to download maps (ie road atlas types).
No fancy directions or route planning etc, but you can load up the whole UK Speed Camera database (mobile sites excluded :( )
Works a treat - saved me a few points

I just drive around until the wife yells so much I stop and ask, maybe buy a map if I'm really lost.
