Hey, I'm new to the Radio Room but have been playing SHIII for several months now. I would make a pretty decent captain for my U-124, except for one thing: I am unable to track and find contacts on my map (using contact auto-updating). Do I have to get a mod to find the target's bearing, or what? Or is there some special trick to hunting down the contact?

BTW, what are some of the must-have SHIII mods for a average player?

Hope to have even more fun with SHIII. Thanks.

I wouldn't really call it a "special" trick. Just lead the target a bit, because they're moving ~8kts or so. Achieve a position in front of their "base course", then turn back toward their last contact position.

That's for macro-navigation. If you're engaging a target, then you'll want to use your hydrophones. You should already know their general course by visual identification (through the scope, UZO, binoculars), so just make sure they/you haven't passed by.

Sorry if I was a bit misleading... I meant on the navigation map. On the TDC map I can suffice with visual contact.

Do you mean how to intercept a target that "pops up" on the nav-map?... read the Wiki or try these links:

Excellent source of links Dantenoc... (just delete the single space at the end of each one...and it will be clickable)

For me...I just use the line drawing tool...start at the contact position...and pull it out in the direction of travel...(the tail on the map contact icon...which is the tail of the ship in question... shows direction of travel)...pull it out where you can get ahead of it... far enough to intercept....and either wait there.. or set a course going back down that line till you "bump heads" :dead:
