I've been on SH3 hiatus since November. With the combination of retiring a long-running career, getting a new job in the real world, and recieving Rome Total War for Christmas (appearantly I'm a sucker for work-in-progress games), I haven't been on patrol for a while.
While fighting my way through the forests of Germania I realized that I really missed being out at sea. I was enjoying RTW, but it didn't engross me the way SH3 did. I missed the cat-and-mouse, hunter-into-hunted. I wanted SH3's smaller focus, with the almost role-playing like aspects of getting to know and develop the crew. In RTW I never worried about throwing thousands of troops into a potentially suicidal fight; in SH3 I feel concern for my sailors' well-being, and feel like I'm taking real risks when I attack a heavily defended convoy.
So I put out to sea again, in a brand new IXC. It's now Operation Drumbeat, and I'm off Nova Scotia having just sunk a pair of tramp steamers. Happy times!
