Beerymod.com: INSANE going out of business sale!

Just to let you all know, my wife got laid off on Friday, so since I was a stay-at-home dad and due to a neck injury I'm somewhat physically disabled (the doctor says I shouldn't work at present) we will soon have no income coming into the house unless/until my wife gets another job. Anyway, what this means to you folks is that I'll have to (at least temporarily) disable my website which was costing us $40 per month. It's a bit of a bugger, but we have to do what we can to extend our finances as much as possible in the event that it takes my wife a while to find a job that pays what we need to keep the house running and us in food.

Anyway, I'm going to keep the website (www.beerymod.com) up for a few more days at least, but if anyone needs to download anything from there, please make sure you get anything you need in the next few days. As usual anything you find to download there is COMPLETELY FREE so get it while it lasts! :)

Sorry about the fact that I'm gonna have to do this, but I know too many people who have lost out big time due to the fact that they assumed they could weather a bad period like this while continuing with an unsustainable lifestyle. My brother in law was one of these folks and he went bankrupt and lost his house in part because he didn't cut back on certain luxuries. I think it's always best to treat such things as if the worst was going to happen so that if it does, there's a plan in place for it and you know you've done all you could. If the worst doesn't happen, it's no big loss.

I'll be able to access to the internet indefinitely (unless things get really bad), as my wife needs internet access for the level of job she's looking for. So I'll be able to access the forum here and I'll keep my email address (beery1@comcast.net).

If/when things turn around, I'll get my site back up. It will probably be under a different domain name though. I'll let folks here know if/when that happens.

Ian (Beery) Cooper.

Dam-when it rains, it pours, eh? Sorry to hear about your probs, that really sucks. But I think you're doing the right thing- expect nothing, prepare for everything is a smart man's way to do things.
Keep it tight.

Bad luck indeed.

Undoubtedly you are right to batten down the hatches, it was very kind of you to host the RUb and other mods for so long.

I wish you and your wife much better fortune for the future.

With your skills in modding have you ever tried getting your foot in the door with developers that pay people to create mods/maps, who work from home.... :hmm:

For as many people that are here, if only 40 of us gave $1 a month to a paypal account, we could carry the site for you Beery.

I think the Subsim community owes you at least that much. I would be happy to help even more.

John, Neal...Can we set this up?

C'mon guys, let's not just say 'oh well, good luck'.

Let's give something back to the man.

Beery, my email is MONOCORP@Comcast.net. I'm certain I could help you out with this.

Beery
02-19-06, 10:41 AM
Neal, I believe, already offers all my mods, so I'm not sure keeping my site up is necessary. However, I haven't checked recently to make sure Subsim's versions of the stuff I offer are all completely up-to-date. Anyway, Neal always has my permission to host any of the mods that currently appear on my website, and I think JScones (the creator of the SH3 Commander and JSGME mods) is with me on that.

Once I'm on my feet again (or if I stay on my feet) then I'll get my site up, so nothing will be lost. Thanks, Monolith, for the idea of community contributions, but thanks to Neal and others who host my site's stuff I reckon it'll be fine to temporarily disband my site. I'll be submerged for a while, but have no fear - my trusty U-boat will resurface.

Thanks for all the words of support from everyone! Don't worry, I always land on my feet (mostly because my 'prepare for the worst' strategy ensures that every result is 'as expected' or better).

Beery, I hope all goes well for you and the family. I been there myself, for 3 years with no income, due to a back injury that left me permanently disabled. It's no fun and I can see exactly where you both are coming from. Don't dispair tho or let it eat at you, she do fine and you'll be back on your feet soon. We're all pulling for ya mate. Things do get better. ~S!~

I'm saddened to hear of your troubles but it sounds like you are keeping your eye on the bubble. Keep her above crush depth and I look forward to your RTB.

Let me add my thanks for your fine work and your generous attitude. You have certainly been instrumental in making this game much better than the original version.

Good luck man! I have used your great mods from Red Baron 3D to B17 2 The Mighty 8th and now SHIII! You have greatly improved each of those games to the point that I continue to have plenty of fun playing them.

Just on a curious side note, why don't you currently host the great B17 2 R&R mod on your website? It can be hard to find these days.

Anyway, take care and good luck.

I don't host it because (believe it or not) I lost the last version and I only have an earlier version  . If anyone can direct me to one of the later versions I made (wherever they might be found) I'd appreciate it, as I'd love to play B-17 II again using my R&R file.

Thanks again, everyone, for the support.

Anyway, what this means to you folks is that I'll have to (at least temporarily) disable my website which was costing us $40 per month.First, I need some technical data, as I do not want additional cost at the end of the month. So, if you can give me roughly how much bandwidth and webspace you need, I can look into creating an account for you on my resellers plan and host you for a limited time.(No subdomain, your real name).

I am not here to spam, so I will not ask you to put banners or links returning to any of my websites.
Just keep it clean and I will ignore you. Remember it is only for a limited time (2 to 3 months...)

P.S.
If you ask why I am doing this, it is because I need to have some experience in the hosting world before actually going into business next year. I want to see how it is before venturing in this vast and somewhat complex world.

Good luck in any case!

...if you can give me roughly how much bandwidth and webspace you need, I can look into creating an account for you on my resellers plan and host you for a limited time...

Thanks for the offer, but I don't think it's necessary. My domain and website were only a hobby of mine so I'm not losing anything by removing it, and since all the stuff on there is mirrored by others (Subsim.com should have all my latest stuff in the downloads section) with any luck no one else should be inconvenienced by my site's absence.

My website still gets a lot of hits per day, so I reckon that after it disappears there might be some questions here - i.e. "Where did Beerymod.com go?" etc., so I figured that I ought to keep my friends here in the know so that they don't think I just dropped off the face of the Earth while giving no reason. The Subsim forums were by far my favourite haunt for a long while and I hope to be back here full-time one day when I regain my zest for SH3 or when SH4 comes out.

I believe you are wise to be taking this action at this time.

Neal, thanks so much for the offer! As I said in my PM to you, your offer has raised our spirits enormously - my wife was so touched that she got teary-eyed. But I also wanted to take time to say/give my sincerest thanks for all the hard work you have put into modding, now across two genre. I have followed you since RB and the UOPs you made - it kept me in that dear old game. Now here in SH your mods have kept me afloat.

Wishing you the best sir.

I just checked out your site for the first time just now, and I'm already familiar with SH3 Commander and RuB, but I saw the "News" mod, and that looks cool, where it gives you periodic news reports. Couldn't find a link to download it though. Got it anywhere for download?

We've cut back on pretty much everything we could as far as luxuries (cable TV etc.) is concerned, and Elisabeth (my wife) will get some severance, and we already got some monetary help, so we're in a good position to last for a good few weeks, both financially and emotionally.

Also, Elisabeth has what look to be two good leads on jobs (she was already interviewing before the lay-off and had hired a job placement service, so we were ahead of the game in that sense). I reckon we probably have a 70% chance of getting back to normal within the next 6 to 8 weeks, and about a 50% chance of getting a better job out of it by the start of next month. Meanwhile, Elisabeth is still pursuing every lead, and she's using any extra free time she has to spend with me and the kid. Not that there is that much spare time, as Elisabeth seems to be working as many hours finding a job as she did when she was working 9 to 5, hehe. Today she had a four hour interview (which went very well indeed) followed by two hours at her old job (she's on-call until her official termination date), then she spent another two hours looking for work on the web and writing thank-you letters to her interviewers. The last two weeks have been pretty much like that all the time.

Anyway, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this interview today works out. They seemed to really like her, and if she gets the job it will mean we would actually make out on the deal, as it would mean a pay raise and she'd keep her severance, plus it would mean we wouldn't have to move to another town. So if that works out it will be a big relief.

I'll keep you folks posted.

That sounds GREAT Beery, Really!!! I'm glad to see that you have such a smart woman by your side. That part about her sending 'Thank You' letters to all the interviewer regardless if they employee her or not is a VERY smart thing to do. Perhaps they didn't give her a job today but in the future they will remember her and possible give her a job tomorrow. Great strategic move on her part. This way if one job hires her but it's not what she really wants and one of the previous companies that didn't hire her at first was really what she wanted then perhaps she might get a call from them down the road. Way to go Mrs. Beery  Well I would keep my head held high if I were you Beery and know that lots of folks go through tough times, but know that it only makes you a tougher and better person for it! My wife and I struggled for a few months right after I discharged from the service in the fall of 2005. I was stationed in Italy working with NATO but wanted to avoid having to go to Iraq to drive trucks for the Army. (I'm a Sailor afterall, and I don't know too much about ground combat), so I decided to just get out since my EAOS date was nearing and I had my Montgomery GI Bill money to use to go to school on.

The Navy didn't give me any house hunting leave or job hunting leave either and I had to sell back ALL '60' days I had on the books with them. Got back a pretty good chunk of change but after about 2 months. So for a few weeks we stayed with some friends and eventually I found a job in another state and we moved on a spur of the moment thing. Things were tight money wise at first but now she and I are now getting settled - sort of. I've got a baby coming now and she is due in April. Doctor says she looks healthy and everything and she should be on time or perhaps a few weeks early. I can't wait!!! Anyways, just hang in there buddy and keep your head held high, you're gonna make it through this!

:( sorry you got problems at the moment , but things do work out , given time , i had a serious neck injury like you ,on heavy plant machinary, three years ago, got laid up for three months, and ,after surgery that required removing three of my disc's and replacing them with bone graft from my hip,i was laid up for another three months,no money comeing in, i could'nt drive or nothing ,doctor's orders, so i let nature take its course, ;) i just played SH2 and walked miles, when i look back at it now i can see i got my priorities right, family and health comes first, the money will follow :smug:i got out of the steel industry and i now have a better job, although my wife says "im still a pain in the neck" i told her "everything i got , she can have" :yep: so good luck and get some SH3 patrols under your belt, its good medicine.

Thanks for everyone's support through this.
