Hi!
Has anyone on this board had experience from playing SH3 on a laptop. My problem is: Everytime I boot the game from windows I get a message prompt telling me that the screen resolution I'm using isn't optimal on lcd monitors, whereupon the games crashes. Not all the time. If I'm lucky, I'm able to a game or two before being brutally kicked back to windows. The strange thing is that the very same prompt says that a 1680-1050 screen resolution will remedy the problem, which is happens to be exactly the same resolution I use. Any suggetions?

SH3 runs at 1024x786 and apparently some software monitors your system and informs you when you run a software that doesn´t use 1600x1050, the native screen resolution. The first thing I would do is to close the software that monitors the display resolution, it probably sits in the tray bar. Maybe it´s an option of the display driver that you need to switch off. Also install the latest DirectX software:

And update your video card driver.

Way back when I first got the game and had a ton of trouble getting it to run on my desktop, I loaded it on my laptop in an attempt to be able to play the game while fixing the other problem(s).
I've got an HP Pavilion zt3010us. It's about two years old. Game runs fine, except for the mouse giving me some grief at the higher time compressions. I'm not sure what the resolution is set at. I just loaded it - and played.

Did you try setting your screen resolution to 1280x800?

Hi! Thanks. Your info solved all my problems. Once I upgraded DirectX and my video card driver the hickups and gamecrashed ceased. :sunny:
Kind regards, Paul

I think the avon lady plays SH3 on her laptop, she might be able to give you some tips.
Laptops in my mind are not for gaming unless they're RTS games that require less power, but i hear the high end laptops can get away with this.
To get a new video card for my laptop, if I wanted to get one from Ebay, would all I do is search for "laptop video card"? Or what's more of a technical term for it lol.

ask the techs from where you brought it, tell them you want to upgrade your graphics they should be able to give you the right one for your laptop.
