So I just rebuilt my machine, everything except for the hard drive, and now when I try to launch SH, I get some protection screen asking me to activate the product again. So I try and do that and it wont take my serial number. I think it thinks I stole the game. What do I do?

It´s probably a Starforce problem, try the driver removal tool:
http://www.onlinesecurity-on.com/protect.phtml?c=55

Then reboot your PC, start SH3, SF then reinstalls itself. After that it should work.

Didn't work. This is really dissapointing.

And I tried <Edit - Gizzmoe>, but that doesn't let me download files. their blocked. It blocks the pages. So as usual, I click the security icon, specifically tell it to allow cookies from that site, and that never works.

When you started SH3 after using the removal tool, did it tell you to reboot the PC? If not the driver wasn´t removed correctly, you should try the removal tool again, maybe also boot to Safe Mode before you do that.

Yes it did day to reboot, which I did. Tried launching SH after that, and it still gives me this protection window and tells me my system settings have changed. I try entering my serial code and click activate, and it wont take my old code. I really hope I dont need to buy another copy of this game.

Try this serial number: MH39X-XFUNW-ZQ3DQ-HJB3J-8WC9X

It said that was invalid or mistyped.

It's amazing. There is no contact information anywhere on the starforce site. I am being forced to buy another copy which is just ridiculous. They need to rethink this for SH4.

You must be blind... ;) http://www.star-force.com/protection.phtml?c=70

This won´t help. Use the removal tool again, but this time boot to Safe Mode first. If that doesn´t help contact SF support.

I already uninstalled it. It's not working and taking up a ton of hard drive space for nothing. I'm not buying another copy of this just to go through this again. I have other games that actually work. Thanks for your help Gizzmoe

Have you got any saved files on cd? I have noticed if you do a clean install but leave your saved files some times it wont ask you for the key gen.

you're amazingly busy person, aren't you ;) it's been yet 10 days.
As a last resort, you may try no-DVD thingy but I think I'm not supposed to talk about it here.

I uninstalled and reinstalled and it told me I have exceeded the uses for my serial number or something. So someone contacted me through PM, gave me a link to "that which we do not speak of", and it all works fine now.

That Starforce thing is just the worst. I wouldn't let me in to my own game just because I decided to upgrade some thing in my machine. The game works great and the machine is a monster now so i'm in a good mood.
