I encountered a convoy coming East in AL; mostly C2s, coastals, and a few Victory cargos. This is Aug 43. I have 1 electric fish left, and so I line up a victory for the engine room shot. It misses, keels the victory, and stops her dead in the water. The rest of the boats start swerving, and with nothing left to do, I put her into ahead standard and set depth to 150. I decend under the keel of a small tanker (about mid convoy), and strangely I can hear my engine above the water. Then, all of the sudden I hear cannon fire and explosions. Like w.t.f?, and pan around. Two victorys are firing all guns (artillery and machine guns) at the small tanker, and the coastal merchant behind it. They set the tanker ablaze, and destroy the coastal (it splits in half and burns). I'm like W.T.F.? Everything falls silent and the convoy moves on - burning small tanker goes back into line. Later I check the map and the sunk coastal is blue! Was an axis cargo ship stealthing along in an allied convoy, or did somehow the victorys mistake the coastal for _me_? Anybody see this before?
