Hi to the Betasom team,

Any chance that perhaps you guys will be doing old style ships like the cruiser San Giorgio at Tobruk or ships that are Italian built like the Giorgios Averoff or the Thai cruiser Naresuan (w/c became the Italian cruiser Etna)?

Just wondering,
Mountbatten

Really looking forward to anything Betasom builds. You guys are great!

Right now I'm making do with the Kent type cruisers for the Averoff - they're actually a pretty close match - and if it were possible to just add four secondary twin turrets and redo the superstructure of the Kent...

Here's hoping,

Well, hope to see it sailing sometime. The Greek armoured cruiser Averoff was the sister ship of the Italian cruisers Pisa and Amalfi. Right now I'm just using the Norfolk to stand in for it but it doesn't have those four 7.5 twin turrets.

Hoping for some of those sweet old school ships someday!

Are these in the works? Which present ships would be a good looking substitute for these would you think?

Many thanks,

Here are some great views of these fine Italian built warships:

http://warships.web4u.cz/lode.php?language=&stat=SIA&typ=TRA&trida=Trad

I was thinking if you guys were already doing Ariete perhaps a version of the Ariete with no turrets just guns would be similar to Trad.

Also the design of the Etna/Naresuan class is quite similar to the Capitan Romani.

Kudos on the Gabbiano! That's a sweet boat!

Kudos on the Gabbiano! That's a sweet boat!

Just installed it into my DC folder and really looks amazing.

I have one question though. There are many UDF's which seem to be all exactly the same except for one field:

Flag= 1,2,3 and so on up to 9.

What does this mean?.

Bruno Lotse
03-06-06, 08:54 PM
By changing this Flag parameter you can change nationality of the ship. The model would fly the colors of the country which correspond to values 1.2.3 etc. Try it. Historically, after 09.43 some Gabbiano corvettes were taken over by Kriegsmarine and became German T class, after the war some became French, others - Soviet ships (WW2 reparations). It's one of the great features of SH2/DC - customization.

Hey, ask Mountbatten, should he have time he can do magnificent repaints the ships. He could make you German T out of Italian Gabbiano

GlowwormGuy

Thanks for the plug Bruno and yes I can (would love to!) do a repaint of the Gabbiano if you'd give me the colors or samples. I'm actually planning to use the old Gabbiano (DC version) as the German Vorpostenboote - I know should have a longer slimmer funnel - and I got a few new things kicking around in the cruiser category, repaints all though.

I had tried only in the viewer and there I could see no changes.

After setting up a quick mission in the game itself, now I've realised that penant numbers change with every different UDF, but not the flag itself: they're all waving Italian flag.

With the Orsa for example, changing the flag you can change the name of ship:

Here are another ones for your inspiration. Former Yugoslavian Masor and Marjan converted by Germans as Minenshiffe - Minelayers and Minesweepers operating in the Adriatic Sea.

Man TA32 looks suspiciously like a British destroyer hehehe... looks like another incarnation for NDDA.

Mountbatten

Bruno Lotse
03-09-06, 09:46 PM
As the story goes, when Yugoslavian Navy establishment allocated money for a new leader they initially approached French, as French were renown for their ships built for Mediterrenian theater. Yet Yugoslavians wanted on their destroyers Check guns (I do not know why they would thought that Scoda (land-locked country) was good in Naval artillery. They were undeniably good in building tanks though). French said no. They would built everything top-notch but according to their own specifications - from keel to the last bolt. Then Yugoslavians approached British. The British answered - you want us to install those guns or you would install them yourselves? So, eventually Leader Dubrovnik was another incarnation of British Naval ship building...Well, when Germans took it over they installed their own naval guns.

GlowwormGuy
03-10-06, 07:49 PM
That solved it I guess... so I guess that 'this is a job for - NDDA!' Well Skoda works did pretty good artillery and I guess, being a part of the former Austro-Hungarian empire they were just more familiar with Skoda guns. Should do a pack - the German British looking ex-foreign destroyers: ZG3 Hermes, TA32... by the way, this is standard German camo colours? For the TA's I mean?

http://www.oksenate.gov/senate_artwork/siege_of_uss_oklahoma.jpg

Change the masts into tripods, put the secondaries into the superstructure and take away one funnel...

GlowwormGuy
03-14-06, 04:10 AM
First the bad news... the game does not have the German TB models for 1932 and 1939 which is really ridiculous as they're similar to the extant 1924 model but with a few guns added and subtracted here and there. So many missing things - heck they should have done at least two Warspites (Malaya type with old style tripods and the Warspite type) and at least two Renowns (Renown and Repulse, box superstructure former, tripod mast the latter) and a VW class with the old number of funnels, not just the single funnel long range version - I mean they had all those Yank and Japanese destroyers etc...

So that's the bad news...

The good news is

I'll work on a couple of more repaints for the TBs including 2 color and variant 3 color (green, white, black) schemes so we can get a trifle more color in there. By the way, Scorpio let me know where I can send this (if you'd care to include them in the Italian set or whatever) and Bruno please remind me of your email address again. I'll try and send over the Capetown repaints and a few other things.

Re: Well Skoda works did pretty good artillery...
You're right. I've read recently that Skoda was the main supplier of naval guns for Austro-Hungarian fleet. Battleships of class Viribus Unitis were equipped with original Skoda guns. So Checks were in no way novices in naval artillery. The reason why French did not want to install Check guns on Dubrovnik was simply French desire to maintain their DD fleet as the most powerful in the Mediterrenian. Check guns were 140 mm capable to throw 40kg shells to 24 km while the most powerful French DD gun was 138 mm. When British built Leader Dubrovnik and installed 4X140mm guns, Dubrovik became the most powerful destroyer (in terms of gunnery) in the world all the way till German experiments with 150mm guns (which proved to be a failure - they eventually reverted to 127mm). Yugoslavians also had three destroyers - Beograd, Ljubljana, Zagreb. These three were based on French Barasque with 4x120mm but again Skoda guns. Italians captured Dubrovik ('Premuda'), Beograd ('Sebenico'), Ljublana ('Ljublana'). Zagreb was destroyed by its own crew who did not want to surrender their ship. Germans took over Premuda and Sebenico - TA 32 and TA43. Ljublana sank in spring 1943.
I like your idea of repainting British cruisers. Looking at stock RN cruisers in the game one might think that RN was in Toulon throughout the WW2 - no camo,no nothing. Have a look at the HMS Arethusa in so called 'Malta' camo, i.e. colors specific for that theater of war.

Hey good on ya mate! That's great too we now have potentially two textures for the Dido types.

You take the deck textures from the GENxxxx files within the model. Use the Hex editor to FIND the files labeled GenBritish or GenUSA etc. These give the deck and flag textures. These are external files (of course) and you don't need to extract them with COVET's tools.

Do let me know which ones you plan to cover or are covering (no harm in doubling up though) so we can cover more ground in less time.

Right now I'll be working on Bruno's TA types so have a go at the Brit cruisers

Well, the reason I use Winace is that it gives the best compression rate, and I have a very limited space in my website. Anyway, if you use Winrar you should be able to open .ace files without problems.

A bit off-topic, but is there anywhere a dumbs guide on how to hex-edit the .jrf's?. I don't know exactly what to change to have different copies of the same model with different paints (so I can keep the original Dido, for instance). I know the new .jrf name must be also changed somewhere inside, but I see the old name in many different parts, and I don't know which ones to change. Looked for old topics on this, but apart from lots of references to hex-editing used for lots of things (add things, remove things, change things) I couldn't find anything clear.

It's very useful for using external textures (I've done mi first successful hexediting on a model so it uses an alternative texture for some parts), but I still don't know what to change to create a copy of an existing model under a different name. All my attempts have finished in game crashes :hmm: .

EDIT: I think I've finaly found my mistake, I hadn't changed the name in the textures as well. I renamed them and re-inserted them and it seems to work!.

Hi Jap Lance,

I use a nice little free prog called FRHED and the first thing to do is to change the name of the file keeping the same number of letters (kinda hard for the ones with short names!) then in FRHED run a FIND search for all the files with that name, NCLDIDO for example and then REPLACE with NCLDIDD or NCLDIDI (whatever you renamed the file). Run a REPLACE ALL if possible (and make sure you get the spelling right!) This is the FIRST step, before even opening up Covet's tools as this will give you a whole new name for the texture files when generated. To change the deck textures without overwriting the originals run a search for the GENxxx files. These cross reference the Gen type textures.

Also, as indicated in the retexturing guide you can have larger textures which are external to the model.

Looking forward to your new stuff!

Afraid it's not a new turret deal... you still get the Exeter's massive 8" turrets, but they're firing smaller shells. I'm afraid I've not got the arcane knowledge of masters like Serge or the Italian geniuses. But from a distance it does the trick. Of course if someone could change those ruddy turrets I wouldn't complain

Cheers,

This was my testing ship for my first hex-editing: Italian cruiser R.Montecuccoli.

http://img119.imageshack.us/img119/4194/montecuccoli3mx.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

Montecuccoli repaint (http://www.terra.es/personal2/971726567/DC/RepaintMontecuccoli.ace)

Seems to work OK. Download includes an external texture, GENMonte.TGA, which contains the guns, decks, racks and some other stuff.

In case someone doesn't know what to do with it, just put it all in the models folder and reroute the .UDF to the new .JRF.

OK, the M. Attendolo is in the docks, almost ready to make it to sea again ;).

Glad to hear that GlowwormGuy finally could cope with the Aces hehehehe.

And yes, the Montecuccolis have different model names and a new external file each (it was necessary, as some parts of the ship were in the Gen Italy and the camo is very different now). Nevertheless, the main TGA's are still inside the model; I don't like to fill my models folder with lots of TGA's, and also my system struggles to handle bigger textures.

Regarding that merchant ship, is seems like the darker side could be a blueish grey maybe. Sorry but my English is not good enough as to be clearer.

I especially love that white and red stripes on the bow which were applied to warn Luftwaffe who tend to bomb both British and Italian ships without much discrimination (actually Italian pilots would do it as well). Thank you guys!. A big part of the merit is for people like Sergbuto, who did a nice guide that helped me a lot. And with lovely profiles like those that Bruno showed is difficult to do it ugly.

Bruno, the Montecuccoli has the same air recognition stripes in the bow, though not so nice, as I didn't have that lovely profile and I also didn't know how long they were. Anyway they're in the external TGA, so you can use the one on Attendolo with a very simple copy&paste.

Re: she's an auxilliary ship (sub tender HMS Bonaventure).

I see you like auxiliary ships...
How about this. Former Yugoslavian sea plane tender Zmaj renamed by Germans to Drache and converted to helicopter carrier.
Mostly used as a mine layer and fast troop transport.

She survived this attack. Eventually Beaufighters got her a year later, i.e. in September 1944.

GlowwormGuy
03-23-06, 05:22 PM
they do add some variety to an anchorage. The Bonaventure interests me because she's the depot ship for the British X-Craft Submarines.

But that is one interesting ship, the Drache was it? Man can you imagine a match up with Graf Zeppelin or Aquilla? An alternate history commando movie - Get the Ark Royal (or Illustrious or something) where the Brandenburger Commandos launch an airborne landing on the Ark Royal while the Me109s and Stukas cover and suppress the AAA of the carrier. Major propaganda coup for Nazi Germany... except there happens to be an ex-Royal Marine Commando who's now a cook in the galley of the ship (played by Steven Seagal LOL)

But seriously that's a neat little ship. It's such a pity we can't move stuff around the model. It could be a Flower maybe or a German escort ship with one funnel deleted.

Another thing I noticed, trawlers of this period look virtually alike - one tall slim funnel to the rear, a boxy bridge structure and one or two guns, one at the very bow the other at the stern. That ship really should be in the game...

Hi Bruno, Mountbatten, JapLance, Horsa
We have some units that need a texture improvement for Mare Nostrum mod.
If someone are be able to help us,he will be very appreciated.

We also would like to ask permission to the authors of those wonderfull british ships, retextured for the mediterranean theatre, and also the model of the italian unity Muzio Attendolo, to use them in our mod instead of the originals. All contributions, of course, will be acknoledged in the credits of the mod.
Obviously the mod will be completely free.

The link is www.forum.maricosom.net.

No problem at all from my side. I enjoyed Alfa Tau a lot and hope to enjoy even more of Mare Nostrum . Take what you may need of my repaints. Soon I'll have the Queen Elizabeth and the Southampton ready.

Regarding help with textures in MN, I'm not sure to be very helpful, since I more or less know how to use existing ship profiles in simple models like those of the original game, but I'm not very talented if I have to actually paint the ships.

Bruno Lotse

I am not good at retexturing at all. Plus recently my main OS is Linux so I cannot test units as SH/DC require exclusively Windows 98/XP. However, I have some literature about various Navies of the WW2 period, I am very interested in history of naval engagements in the Mediterranean Sea, and I am looking forward to Mare Nostrum as the most realistic and historically correct Naval sim ever. Consequently, I am most willing to contribute by sharing whatever information I might have (camo plates, ships, drawings of guns etc.)

I bet our Italian friends are busy writing a mission how to sneak into Alexandria harbor and blow up both HMS Valiant and HMS Queen Elizabeth.

It's a shame - looks like everybody knows the name of Gunther Prien and not many aware who were Durad De la Penne, Antonio Marceglia, Vincenzo Martellotta.
These incredibly brave guys riding their maiale sneaked into the main RN harbor in the Mediterrenian and blew up two battleships, a tanker, and damaged HMS Jervis.:arrgh!:

Man, when you feel like it, give us also HMS Valiant and HMS Warspite. This should be just a matter of a little bit different camo on the same QE class battleship.

Is anyone making any new merchant vessles for Silent Hunter II? (Besides the Fishing Boat and Tugboat) There are very few stock ones.

(I'd also like to know if there is any way possible to add new ships to AOD, even though I doubt anyone would be interested even if it were possible.)

JapLance

As far as I know, there is no chance to add new ships to AOTD.

For SH2 there are three German raider models which look like merchants, so I guess you could use the models, and also in the Pacific Aces mod I think there is at least a couple of new ones.

That ship in your signature is the coastal tanker from AOD converted for SH3, right?.

PD: excellent, glowworm, I'll try it tonight after the MotoGP races  .

Not new merchants just new repaints. I got it in my head to try and make as many of these old ships in their old company colors so there are quite a few kicking around in my HD.

I think AoD doesn't have the flexibility to add new ships unfortunately.

I apologize me for the slowness of my answers, but I don't know to sufficiency the English language.

- for JapLance.
I have downloaded from your site the whole available material.
We think about using: NCLPerth, NCLAttendolo and/or NCLMontecuccoli. If you will complete the NBBQElizabeth we will directly insert it in the mod, or in a following moment with a patch.
Currently we use the beautiful version of NCLSouthampton built by Sergbuto, but we can also see your paint.
Thanks to you.

- for Bruno.
We remember your precious collaboration in the testing of the unities for Alpha Tau. We won't miss to ask you for information for yours recognized competence of the historical aspects of the naval unities and war actions.
Thanks!

- for Mountbatten
We have inserted in the mod, almost all the Italian unities that you have repainted and that you have sent us in the past months. Unfortunately some missions is developed at the night time.
With the exception of the Italian airplanes we have inserted in the mod only the airplanes standard. Now the mod is almost complete, and our limited human resources don't allow us substantial additions.
Unfortunately the class of Destroyer "K" (HMS Kelly) is not inclusive in the standard unities of the game, and we have tried to represent war actions with protagonists the classes of available unity.
Thanks You!

Though since JapLance is basing his repaints off Bruno's plates w/c I think are from the Profile Morskie books you may want to consider them as a 'sister ship'. After all doesn't it get rather boring (not to mention unrealistic) to have ships all with the exact same camo scheme? :yep:

Well if you can still fit them in I can send you the Do217K, Avro Lancaster and Blackburn Skua. IIRC the Skua was well used by the HMS Ark Royal in 1940. I'm thinking of doing a repaint of the Beaufighter as an early Blenheim as well if you'd like it. Also I got a new repaint of the British Clyde and Narwhal class subs (same repaint, different UDF) w/c I finished last night.

Well hopefully sometime in the future we may see Kelly or a more accurate Hood - I'm just happy with whatever the Italian shipyards can launch

As for Mowe class, that's the piece de resistance. I'll be doing those hopefully with all the schemes you sent me so I think you'll have a lot of fun with that Bruno. Just finished the two tone color scheme for the '1935' and a spankin new repaint of the two subs mentioned above.

And - good news JapLance - there IS a workaround for the non-German anti-aircraft guns. Machineguns don't work... but (hint, hint) AA guns do!

Cheers,
Mountbatten

OK. We've got Scua. But we also should have Fairly Fulmar which became the staple air carrier fighter-bomber since late 1940, and definitely we need Barracuda. They were late for Midter, yet they were used to attack KMS Tirpitz. :yep:

I have a set of repaints of British DDs and escorts , but they are general purpose camoes rather than an attempt at authentic patterns for the Med.

There is also a repaint of Upholder.

If you will complete the NBBQElizabeth...

Queen Elizabeth is ready, you can find her above in this same thread.

This how the Southampton is now in my HD.

http://img118.imageshack.us/img118/9931/southampton0oa.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

I still need to tweak the damaged texture. Apart from that, it's ready.

Bruno, massive research I guess to make those UDF's. Great work  . Glowworm TB looks excellent. Here is a pic of it:

@JapLance
On my machine your Southampton looks too brownish. My take is her colors should be more like gray, light blue, dark blue (navy). Southamptons (take HMS Sheffield for instance or HMS Manchester) were heavily used as escorts for capital ships. Now take your Southampton and counter impose her against QE. They will immediately loose their camo - brown rock on the blue and white backdrop of QE. Camo should hide, confuse, not expose. You know what I mean? I thinks this photo is more realistic in terms of color schema used for Town class light cruisers. This is HMS Belfast which is of the same parent Town class as Southampton. What do you think?

If you guys can wait about 3 hours I'll be posting the new camo for the TB 1935 as well as the reskin model of the British early war subs Clyde/Narwhal class.

It's also probably a good idea to take note of when these camo schemes were applied. We could probably have a single UDF but with models (and their applied camo schemes) that change throughout the war. That would really be cool.

Hmmm... we seem to have 'hijacked' the thread for repaints! Not that I'm complaining

What do you think?
http://img388.imageshack.us/img388/7430/HMSBelfast.th.jpg (http://img388.imageshack.us/my.php?image=HMSBelfast.jpg)

I just used a profile I found somewhere in Google, but it didn't have a description of where and when it was used.

These are UDFs which I used when I had machine to run SH2/DC. Those Wellies would fly all the way to Willemshafen and harass my Lochs boat fleet. Actually it did happen. I read about it in Denitz book. On the other side of the story Wellies suffered badly from Luftwaffe. This is the Fleet Air Arm archive where you can find info on the planes used by the Fleet Arm. Wellies are there
http://www.fleetairarmarchive.net/Aircraft/Aircraftindex.htm

BTW, I love your camos. I can hardly see your ships on the pictured provided by JapLance. They are blended with the colors of the sea (or is it my video card?) That's the whole idea of war paint - hide and confuse.
Re: It's also probably a good idea to take note of when these camo schemes were applied. We could probably have a single UDF but with models (and their applied camo schemes) that change throughout the war. That would really be cool.
Very cool. One paint for HMS Southampton, another for HMS Sheffield or HMS Manchester and you can tell which ship is which just looking at their colors.

@JapLance
OK, I see. Perhaps I am biased. I just love the paint on HMS Belfast. With this kind of paint I understand how those ships like HMS Sheffield were used to escort capital ships. From distance camos of those ships would match up and you will get an effect of herd of zebras - you cannot distinguish individual animals. Hide or confuse. :hmm:

A long time ago we tried to realize a special mod to illustrate the game actions of the Italian assault team (Xa Mas).
Among the anticipated missions there was also the forcement of the harbor of Alessandria.
Unfortunately, problems risen in the use of the units employees (Maiali-Carriots) and the shortage of authors prepared to work in the project, has induced us to abdicate.
We will draw profit from your file of transformation of the Beaufigter in Blenheim. This aircraft is more proper for to represent the events of the first period of the conflict in the Mediterranean theatre.

Hi Willi,

As a matter of fact I've been working on missions based on Operation Source, the British X-Craft attack on the Tirpitz. My tests have heretofore been very very successful. I think it would be nice to play the sub commander initially from your home base to the jump off point then the mission ends and a new mission starts placing you in charge of the midget sub. I don't see why it can't be possible to do a human torpedo mission, though you perhaps could concoct either an escape attempt or have the next mission when Italy has surrendered and you are now fighting on the Allied side. Or perhaps you could steal a fast boat and try to escape to Axis territory like Bengazi...

Here's hoping!

I've just checked the models of Sciree and SLC, and they work fine. Didn't want to mess with the damage rooms and other graphics, so I use the standard SH2 screens.

Mission1 also works fine, but in Mission2 I've seen strange things in Alexandria. There were an Italian light cruiser and a Ocean Liner beached next to the entrance of the harbour (blocking ships?, maybe they are simulating nets?), and the harbour itself seems to be in the wrong place (this is a SH2 base.ini mistake I think, it can be easily corrected).

Here is a nice map of the attack, with ship positions. It could be useful to make a more accurate mission.

Thanks for the sites Willi and JapLance. Now all I need is a listing of the ships in the harbor and we're good to go. So far all we have to go on are the Norse tanker Sagona, the British Queen Elizabeth and Valiant of course, the cruiser Euryalus and the DD Jervis (K class, please, please, please, please!) as well as the decommed French BB Lorraine. I can fix up a harbor setup with the map you provided (though a larger map of Alex at the time would help too).

Problem though - I'm running SH2 with Project Messerwetzer now and again I cannot get the SLC to run in SH2. It appears fine in DC but there seems to be something wrong with it in SH2. Could it be a matter of textures or something in the model? It's not the UDF file definitely. Are there other textures I need to install?

As for the Mountbatten yards, I'm still working on several versions of the 1923 torpedo boat before moving on to other stuff.

Nice work on the Southamptons. I don't see why we can't have all of them ;)

By the way, Bruno, would you have any info as to general schemes for RN warships by time period and theater? Like the Western Approaches would be different from the Med which would be different from Scapa Flow.

Cheers,

Mod Alfa Tau has Italian midgit subs. I guess it would be fun to visit Alexandria aboard of one of those small but deadly beauties. Plus when you riding majale the only outcome is surrender, when you are in a midgit sub you can escape having your nasty work done:hmm:

I use it in SH2, but only the model+associated UDF, not the rest of TGA's for gauges and damage room. Can't help you anymore, as my SH2 is a mess of added mods.

What I usually do to install anything is to extract it to a temporary folder, and manually move the files to the required folders. I added Alfa Tau ships this way, and now the Maiale, without problems.

Okay here's the weird thing - the SLC works 'in game' and in the viewer but when I try and look at it in the preview window in SH2 that's what crashes the game. Otherwise working fine! The thing is, the UDF of the SLC (with appropriate modification) apparently has, surprisingly, also solved the problem of the Japanese midget sub. While I'm not complaining I'm really weirded out about the relationship of model and udf to the in game behavior of the ships. Right now I've got a nice little midget fleet - the British X Craft (using the German mini-sub model), the Italian SLC and CB (CB does not seem to want to run in game either, it gives me a Unit Error message), Japanese Midget Sub and of course the German vessels. Strange thing is when I used the X-Craft UDF (with appropriate modification) with the IJN Midget it would very easily roll over - even underwater - and when it oscillated too far the game would crash. Now - same model but with SLC UDF - the problem seems to have vanished! Strange, strange, strange (but then I'm not complaining - it works!)

Thanks very much to Willi, Canarb and the amazing Italian shipyards!

On my computer the small sub "CB" works correctly, also in the preview window (SH2 game).
Nevertheless it is not possible to get a satisfactory enlargement of the image in the menù F12.

The appearance of the model in the preview window can depend on the presence or less of the same model in the database "UnitsIt.db."

I have found an interesting image - map of the harbor of Alexandria.

I believe that there is a problem to carry out the model of harbor of Alexandria that it resembles to the original one.

The map actually has the physical parts of the coastline of 'Alex' modelled pretty well - that half-moon curve is there all that is needed is a long breakwater. I'll see what I can do about that. Perhaps another thing that you chaps could look into would be some 'facilities' and stuff to give 'atmosphere' to the map. You have my 'bases' mod right? I've been able to cobble together accurate layouts for Dunkirk, Malta and if I can find a map of Alex I can do that too. Of course it just uses the stock stuff. By the way would you have available a set of those Italian ports - just the ports - so I can incorporate your superb (may I say superior?) designs in the bases set? If bases can't be DL'd I'll repost for everyone's benefit.

Well, this is a bit off topic, but I don't think it is enough to open a new thread.

I'm into a new repaint, but it's not a Mediterranean one, but for the Pacific theatre, The Atlanta-class cruiser USS San Diego:

http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/38/sandiego7fb.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

I saw a model online (http://www.modelshipgallery.com/gallery/cl/cl-53/350-db/db-main.html) and loved these blueish colours :sunny: .

And in another direction, I've removed turret number 3 from the Fiji model, and I'd love to be able to change it for another 4in turret to make a Swiftsure-class cruiser or a late Fiji, but I think I'll need assistance because my hex-editing is too basic.

Both are WIP, and I'm not sure when they will be finished (in the Swiftsure model I'm not even sure if it will ever be finished :-? ), but as soon as they are I'll post a link :yep: .

Erhm.....been away for a while, where can I download some of these wonderful ships? When I try the minensuchboote I get a janus screenblanker  In my opinion this game needs some more playable German ships

Hi Werewolf!

Yeah that's the problem with R@pidsh@re it deletes stuff after 90 days or so. Give me till the weekend I'll reup the Minensuchboote. And yeah, this game needs more ships!

Sorry for replying so late, usually I get a message when somebody is replying in the threads that I follow, but I gorgot that I have changed my e-mail adress during this year :rotfl:

@Glowworm: Thank you :D And by the way, I have gone through all of this post and seen that the excellent gabbiano was repainted as a German torpedoboot, what happened to that one?

@Simone: WOW!!!!!! that looks beautiful! is that all a part of the mare nostrum mod? A lot of things have happened while I was away.....good things :D :yep:

Wow! Those look great... and a Capitaine Romani too? I'm looking forward to seeing that quite eagerly...

And Werewolf...

Since floppies went out of fashion it's been very hard to transfer files. My computer at home isn't connected to the net so everything must go in a roundabout fashion - coming in via burned CD and going out either by CD or by floppy. I'm backing up my files and I'll bring the CD to a place I can upload the Minensuchboote.

Yeah I decided to use the Gabbiano as the spunky little Vorpostenboote in as much as our brilliant Italian bretheren of the sea have made a greatly superior model. A shame to let a model go to waste. I haven't repainted it though and I've been terribly busy at work to get into repainting it. Ah, if only the stack could be made longer and thinner... there really should be a generic 'trawler' model.

What I'll do is post it to zshare (hopefully my zshare files are still up?) and y'all can download them.

Thanks for the encouragement Werewolf!

 I see the problem, glad to see I am not the only one

A shame to let a model go to waste.

Indeed it is! :yep: And all of the models they have made are superior, I wish that all of you had been behind DC from the beginning! :arrgh!:

Thanks, that sounds great :D
And regarding the encouragement, certainly no need to thank, on the contrary it is the other way round :)

I have a question for all of you in here by the way. The observation view, how the devil does one alter that? I remember that Sergbuto, for example, made a lot of changes on the obs.view. There are so many German vessels that could be perfect if only the obs. view could be changed so that one is not standing in the middle of the super structure......or hanging in free air for that matter :damn: . And all of the remodelling for example removing a funnel and so on, how is it done? What program? I have made many experiments, but they've all failed :88)

Erhm.....sorry if this question fall out of the topic in here, but there seems to be more "life" here

Does anybody know of a link to a page with some information about ASW tactics and especially on how to calculate a drop on a DC run? There has been so much focus on manual torpedo use in both SH 2 and 3, but nobody has thought about how to make a "manual torpedo run". When focused on the escort part of destroyer command it can be a really challenging game actually :)

A long time ago, there was a website owned by Hondo where you could find tutorials about SH1 and which was later expanded to DC. There were some good pages about screen tactics, but they were not specific for DC; Instead it was an account of the real life escort tactics.

There was also someone who did a LOOOOONG time a go a small tutorial-explanation on how to do manual torpedo attacks with DC, and posted it all in a topic in this forum. I don't know if it got lost in the servers move, possibly it did. Pity I did not save a copy

Glowwormguy,
I tried to download your early british norwhal class submarine to see if I could make it work with Pacific Aces but it's no longer there? I think this would work considering I once took a sub from Alfa Tau & made it work with C. B. Med. Campaign?
thank you
Roy

Hi there Roy,

You may have to enlighten me a bit... I'm afraid I'm not sure about w/c sub you refer to (it has been, I confess, quite a while since I messed with subs). Is it the prewar minelayer sub class w/c included the Seal? Better yet could you let me know which page it's linked to?

Hope I can help!

Sorry for the late answer, I had to cut down my signature because it was too big before I could post any further.

Yup, found them - River and Narwhal, using the same model. Will upload as soon as I can (which is getting more dicey as my mom's office just blocked this site because it contains 'games' - sheesh!)

Just watch this space! :arrgh!:
