Have some "me time" so I thought I would take my little type II/A on its 7th patrol and then upgrade to a nice big IX/B. My crew has been working hard and has been hitting the english where it hurts.

After patrol 6 I sent everyone on shore leave to relaxe. I fire up SH3 Commander and click start SH3 AND AND AND..............BAM...........a message pops up saying my 1st officer had been killed in a bar fight and I would need to replace him !!!!!!!!

NOOOOOooooooooo after 6 long patrols he was my watch and repair officer and on his way to his own command.....no longer.

I found myself actually stuned in real life that he had passed away. Has anyone else had this happen?

I've heard of men being killed, or jailed. So far I've just had them transferred to other boats. The effect is the same as far as running mine goes, though.

Sure. Happened to me. Also had one killed in an automobile accident.

I've since told my crew to stop drinking and driving. :88)

Did they listen, or will you have to shoot them for disobedience?

:yep: Get a crewman finally trained & morale up the way you want him and he goes off getting his backside in trouble...or worse BdU thinks they want that officer you have been educating for so long for themselves...

Great Mod addition

:lurk:

Just finished reading Das Boot. You know the guy they call the Bible Scholar? In the book he was a last minute replacement for a crewman who didn't make it back to the boat before they sailed. Given herr Bucheim's background, apparently that was a fairly common occurrence.

I had just compiled enough renoun to get rid of my tiny little type II boat and was ready to get my type VIIB when I was retired!

So far I've lost crew members to car accidents, jail, transfer...everything but being held by the Gestapo :/\chop for "questioning".

I'm selfish myself. I don't let any officer leave the ship for any reason. They wan't their own command?... well, tough :x !!! because NOBODY is EVER leaving this ship... GET IT?!?! :x

You are here to SERVE ME and for no other reason, and it will be ONLY ME who will receive praise and glory from BdU :stare:

Wow! They actually put this stuff in then? I knew they were thinking about it but i didn't really think they would get around to it!

Fantastic!

I might even reinstall the game just too try it out.

Oh yes. With the latest version of Commander you average losing about 1 man per patrol. It might be some sailor you didn't even know, or it might be your First Watch Officer.

I hate it. I believe it and I use it, but I hate it.

No sooner then getting a petty officer trained in FLAK he goes and transfers out. I'm gueesing he didnt want to shoot at incoming airplanes.

To be honest, when i first heard that Sh3 was going to have a crew mangement feature i just assumed that crew transfers would be there. Didn't give it another thought....

This is a good example, i think, of why mods can be so good: adding in features that should have been in the original release.

I'm wondering if when that finally happens to me if I'm going to assume it happened earlier and replace him or assume it happened the night before and there's no time and just put out to sea one man short?

Steve, if i get a transfer I'll replace him as the move went thru normal channels but anything else unexpected jail, death, sudden illness, etc I'll sail without and take whatever comes.

I'm thinking along the same lines as far as jail, fights and accidents go, but illness and some accidents could have happened the day after you hit port, leaving several days or even weeks to replace the guy.

It looks like one more out-of-game die roll to make, as far as I'm concerned.
