A question about ranks and other stuff

Hi guys,i'm new here but not new at SH...i have 2 questions for you:

1°) I'm in Gennary 1944 with my campaign and i only had one promotion; from Lt.Jr to Lt.Sr . is it normal? i'm playing with 54% of realism and my total tonnage is more than 550K

2°) there is bug in diesel engine sound. i had a bad meet with a River DD and he destroyed my stb diesel. Well,i emerged and only one propeller worked(off course) but no sound at all. I was totally sneacky.
some of you know a patch for that?

Promotions not based on a linear tonnage number alone, promotions also a function of number of patrols and renown points.

The Diesel engine sound? Were you running in silent mode by some chance? And or recharging batteries? I have not personally heard of a sound bug/giltch.

Are you using any mods? (modification patches)

for the ranks ... well i done almost 40 missions with a renow of 10.000 ...i really dunno why i don't increase rank! Do you reached a rank up to LT.Sr ?

:hmm: got me here on this issue not really sure why. If you are patched with UBI 1.4 and seems like you are to get that mod to work right.

Do you have the JScones mod enabler? If so try a new career but remove the FF 2.0 try a few patrols without the FF to test to see if this is what might cause a corrupt file.

But only thing I can think of right now on promo is that the realism is low but you are not that low if you have 40 missions?

LOL btw 40 mission in actual UBoat they make you an Admiral. :up:

I know much help but I have not heard of this problem - the all powerful reinstall is only absolute check option since this almost sounds like a file got corrupted :(

Thanks for the help ! i think i will finish my carrer in this way first (its almost ended) , than i want to try a new career with a clean installation (only 1.4 patch and maybe real Uboot) :arrgh!:

If you do the reinstall. Suggest the following.

Add/Remove - all SH3 and related files
reboot & double check for SH3/silenthunter named files; delete them
re-install SH3 from disk
patch from UBi 1.4b (use the 1 for your specific disk type)
install JScones mod enabler

install SH3Commander version 2.4

install mods per enabler - I think you will really enjoy the flexibilty it gives you to mod the game to your personal tastes.

BTW I am running SH3 commander 2.4 and IUb 1.02 with a few other tweaks like Das Boot (sounds, officers and clothing) mods - see thats the power of the enabler - add and subject mods at will (just be sure you are in port before you swap mods)

Go test happy with the mods

It might be tied in to the fact that the game doesnt play sounds when the right engine is running only. this can be demonstrated by recharging batteries at all stop. The rpm gauge for the right engine is near at max, but not an engine sound can be heard. I think the engine sound is tied to the right engine only, possibly to avoid conflicting sounds if each engine had its own sound.
