Been trying a couple campaigns where I am doing my own shooting & have a couple questions & need for advice. I have read Wazoo's guide & the Wiki but after playing today still have a couple questions. Please advise if you kindly would :)

1) trying to use the 3m15s speed calculation method but my ranging accuracy isn't great while viewing through the pericsope with rocking seas while submerged. Any advice how to do this better sans "lock the view" or "use the arrow keys"?

2) What is the measurement of each increment mark on the periscope at x1 & x6 magnification in SHIII?

3) what is the measurement of each mark increment on the UZO?

4) When a ship is between over 300m but under 400m and using the UZO how do you range correctly on the notepad (measure waterline to mast-top)? When the masts are higher than the top of the UZO? Earlier my range taken with the UZO doesn't match the WO's given range. Again how can I get better at UZO/Pericscope ranging?

5) I have read that the notepad's speed calculator can be inacurate but since I don't trust my submerged ranging ability yet I have been using it. I have also read that it's best to take a measurement when the target is on a perpendicular course to the subs. What are any improvements I could make in using the notepad calculator.

6) AOB, I am designating where I am shooting from the target's bow. I am 'eyeballing' it now how can I do this better? I have seen an AOB wheel but I would still be 'eyeballing' it.

looking for insider 'range, speed, AOB' taking tips please...

good luck!

I'm headed back to my patrol, this was my worst night for shooting, i'm 0-2. /sigh going to finish my patrol grid & hunt again in calmer waters. at least i can use the deck gun if i miss. played a long time without one in a IIA in another campaign.

If you can see the bottom of the ship but not the top in the UZO, your too close! :rotfl: . The default range in the TDC is 300m and if your target is 500m away it won't make any difference in gyro angle, I would also advise against shooting at convoys any less than 2000m at night to avoid detection before your salvo. Remember that when you connect your contact points on the map to get speed, the line tool is inaccurate to 50% so when it says 8.0 as in 8kts, it's really something like 7.5, just something to keep in mind  .

May I make a suggestion?

Forget about the range finder in the scope. Set the range on the TDC screen manually at 1,500M or 2,000M and make sure you get to 750M to 1,500 M when you shoot. If you are closer than 750M the torpedos do not have time to arm. Range is the least critical part of the fire control solution. Target speed is the most critical. Set up your attack so that you are firing at a 90Deg angle to the target, at 1,500M or less, and your chances of sucess will be very good, because at that angle and range a miscalculation on target speed or course is less likely to cause a miss. I hope this helps, Joe S

the torpedo arm distance is 250m or so, 300m minimum to be safe.

yep, I always keep the arming distance in mind, never had a question about that javascript:emoticon(':)')
