Ok. Yet another question. I saw on the wiki it say you get:

Reaching patrolgrid: = 500
Patroling patrolgrid for 24 hours = 200
Docking at home port = 100

Well I did all that, and got 175 total. I'm really frustrated with things just not working in this game as I am led to believe they should. Right on the wiki it says I should have gotten 800 renown. Instead I get 175? I completed both missions, and docked at the port.

I wanted to bring this up in case this is the problem. Whenever I go to save whenever I am out at sea, I just overwrite my previous save. It doesnt make sense to me to keep creating a new save every time I want to save. So I just have 1 save that I work from.

What's your realism setting? The Wiki doesn't state it, but I'm sure it comes into play for *all* renown, not just renown relating to ships sunk.

The two links at the end of the Wiki page seem to support this. Go through them, do the calcs, and see what you come up with.

Oh, and you definitely checked the mission orders screen to ensure that you had completed the two objectives? And you definitely chose "Dock at: XXX" to complete your patrol?

Right now i'm playing for fun just to learn at 0%. That must be what it is. So 175 is what you get for 0% realism without sinking any ships. Man that's brutal. At this rate it will take me ages just to get my nest boat. :doh:

Yes I completed both missions, and properly docked. I'm a victim of the realism setting i'm playing at I think.

Am I able to mod something so I can cheat and at least get a little more renown for my efforts?

Also, any way to check current renown during a patrol?

Last question. Do you earn renown as you complete missions, or do you only receive it at the completion of a patrol?

No.

Same thing!

Edit Basic.cfg. Change these values:

[RENOWN]
RenownReachGridObjCompleted=500 <--make MUCH higher
RenownPatrolGridObjCompleted=200 <--make MUCH higher
CompletedPatrol=100 <--make MUCH higher
NEUTRAL=-1 <--Change to 0 so you don't get penalised
ALLIED=1 <--Change to 3 or something
AXIS=-10
...

Which raises a question *I* want to ask of anyone here...Has anyone adjusted the realism percentages so that you *don't* wear a hit for letting the computer do your targetting? I don't think you should wear a "realism hit" for letting your crew do what they're paid to do!

You know what...I've been on this forum for a few monyhs. First...read the damn manual, read the myriad threads, read the wiki and use some common sense. The game is played by a host of people around the world....in their experience...every evolution is NOT a design/readme failure. Nobody here has ever had a problem with newbie questions....but goddamnit everyone here expects the questioners to know how to change their own diapers for statrers. This is not the hand-holding first friggin' grade....The GODS help those who first help themselves....whinners and fault-finders are exiled to and early, permant grave.
I do not apologize in advance for comments...and will acknowledge I am an intolerant, impaitent jerk....nonetheless...you would last exactly one nanosecond in my crew.
That having been said...do a little research first...if the answer is still not forthcoming...ask. If you just want to bitch and moan, heres a quarter...call someone who cares.

"you would last exactly one nanosecond in my crew"

:rotfl: That's one of the most ridiculous things i've ever seen in a forum. :rotfl:

You should be embarrased and ashamed of yourself for that post you just made. Read that again and try to picture how you sound to normal people, which you obviously are not.

Also, what you just did is called trolling, which is basically making posts solely to offend people, and is not allowed in public forums. That post was completely off topic and did absolutely nothing to answer my question. I am allowed to ask as many questions as I like. If you are for some bazaar reason annoyed by this, then you need to just ignore the thread. Not too difficult is it?

You do realize this is just a videogame right? Don't take everything so seriously, especially a game. Now learn to relax a little bit champ. don't be so uptight. It makes you look like you're insane acting like that on a videogame forum. If you aren't here to help, then go away.

Well trenken, in the last three days you've asked about 100 of the most basic questions which could all have been answered by the smallest amount of self research, some through no more than reading the SH3 manual, let alone a scan of previous Subsim posts or the Wiki.

I think the guys and gals on this forum have to be the most tolerant, helpful bunch of people that I've ever come across on a forum...indeed, they've created all this available information for newbies to read, all with the intention of helping and avoiding the need for newbies to ask the same questions over and over. So, you can imagine the reaction when all their hard work is ignored and they have to go over it again.

Anyone here who's known me long enough knows what my SH3Cmdr catchcry is...

Anyway, just something to ponder...

NOTE: the written medium is an awkward medium, so pls understand that I am not trying to offend, rather help you to help yourself.

I believe I have read somewhere that your renown total is dependant on your difficulty/realsim settings. I can't imagine you would get much renown at 0%(?) realism.

This is how you earned them robes. Well put. And in reference to JScones reply, I agree. This is the most tolerant online community towards n00bs I've ever seen. Its especially surprising given the fact that alot of these guys have been sub simmers since SH2 and before which usually would mean they'd be pricks which is obviously not the case. I remember that the Midtown Madness community (racing game) was very offensive if anyone asked any questions at all that related to complex modding of the game (noobs weren't suffered well). Rudest modders I've ever seen.

So what am I saying? Be thankful for who we are and have representing the sub simming community. And know that frogdog's reply is the exception rather than the rule. But what am I saying? We know we're plenty rightminded chaps. Back to the war!

If I want to ask 100 question a day here, I won't be getting banned for that any time soon. If anyone has a problem with it, how hard is it to just not even enter the thread? I'm not holding a gun to anyones head trying to get answers here. I post my question and go and do other things. Don't answer if it's annoying you. Simple as that.

Unfortunately, Trenken, if you ask 100 questions per day, everyone else's posts will be pushed into the 'back-posts'. That means that other new players won't get their questions answered.

Already one or two users of this forum have had to respond to their own original queries in order to move their posts into visibility on the front screen again.

Might i suggest then making 1 thread where you ask your "100 questions a day" :) It will help keep the forums a little more neat
