What is the type of sub you start with in the beginning of your career? And how long till you can get a new one?

If you start at 1939 then you end up with the IIA-sub. As soon as i have about 3000R i will upgrade to VIIB (i think this is the third one).

If you complete all your patrols and lucky to take down some other ships you should be able to upgrade after patrol 3 (maybe 4).

I'm sure the pros will say a lot sooner but that has been my newbie experiance.

Remember arlso that fleet choice has a lot to do with the sub-types that you are offered. Second fleet seems to have the best subs eraly on in the war

When and where do you choose your fleet?

You choose the starting year and flotilla (fleet) at the start of every campaign. So you can start a campaign in 1942 for example.

Yeah I didn't realize flotilla meant fleet. Lol
