does anyone have a problem with the radeon 9800 with the 6.14 drivers? every game i own crashes and i know that it is because of the graphics card. does anyone have any solutions?

if not i'm opting to buy a 6 series geforce card. any other recommendations for a good graphics card?

thanks

Roll back to an earlier driver set...say 5.12. Once you hit 5.13, they begin to be optimized for dual core systems. That should solve your problems.

One of my vid cards is a 9800 AIW and I have had no problems with the rev 6 drivers. Try removing them and reinstalling them.

I have a Radeon 9800Pro, with the 6.14 drivers. I can say the the card itself has problems.... its cooling system is unreliable and has failed on me in two different cards resulting in burnt cards.

When the card is working however... I usually have good results with most games without crashing.

I just know I'll probably not try a Radeon card again if I can help it... this one was pretty cheap though.

My obsession with my computer involves making the machine not only fast, but quiet at the same time. Part of this process involved making the 9800 silent - which means - GET RID OF THAT CRAPPY FAN ATI SUPPLIED!!! Its noisey and worthless. The best silent cooling solution for any video card these days is to look at artic cooling solutions - http://www.arctic-cooling.com/ - This has made my vid card nearly silent and is still a better cooling solution than the original.

I'm about on the verge of my next mod however, so I am still researching a silent solution to an ATI x1900XTX or possibly a 7800 GTX 512. As soon as I figure out how to make one of these boards silent, and I see what AMD is doing with their 65nm process, I will do the upgrade. If the AMD offering is not anything spectacular, I'll probably go with an X2 4400 + (1 MB Cache), and probably an ATI R series based chipset with an ATI x1900XTX. Still researching though.

The planning is killing me. :)
