Abraham - I have you down as about Economic Left/Right: -3
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -4 am I right?
Such a question is difficult to answer.
I think if I qualify myself I will be howled by many forum members I debated with in the past (before I had to bite my tongue as a moderator).
:D
If I'm anything, I'm too opinionated... and as you know, anything that starts with "too" is wrong (apart for toothbrush)!

The funny thing is that I have voted for John Howard (Australian Prime Minister) and the Liberal Party (conservatives) all my life. Just look where John Howard features on the graph. Boy, am I one confused soul. ;)

Ok, thanks. I assume it's more related to the TV than press.

My score:

But I do have to say that alot of the questions are loaded, obviously trying to generate answers to make the individual seem liberal. I adjusted to accomodate for that. There are no maybe answers in the quizzes, and they don't provide enough information in the question in order to answer it adequately.

I mean come on...."Are some people naturally unlucky?" No, but many make bad choices and negative consequences occur, which they should take responsibility for. i.e. making babies you can't afford. Unlucky? Or careless/foolish?

Looking at the results page, it appears that the test ranks Margaret Thatcher 75% as fascist as Hitler or Stalin. This makes me severely doubt its accuracy.

Also, it didn't say anywhere that Thatcher was 75% as facist as Stalin or Hitler... Only 75% authoritarian... BIG difference there...

No significant difference, because authoritarianism is the central, defining component of fascism. It's a matter of semantics, and in any case the claim that Thatcher was 75% as authoritarian as Hitler is just as ridiculous.

Be advised, in the analysis section, Pope Benedict XVI and Robert Mugabe fall in the same area. Somethin' tells me that just ain't right. :shifty:

There are a lot of people here who lean to the left, both socially and economically. :hmm:

...but further right still would be someone like that ultimate free marketeer, General Pinochet.

The Chilean population couldn't decide or opine about the economical decisions, he was not the ultimate free marketeer, he was the ultimate marketeer, minus the free, because it was an economy imposed without criticism. The ultimate free-marketeer cannot rank high on the Authoritarian scale because he gains control of the macro-economical policy, in the same article Pinochet is said to be put "in a hardcore authoritarian position", a better Chilean ultimate free-marketeer example would be any of the successive governments, like Michelle Bachelet.

In our home page we demolished the myth that authoritarianism is necessarily "right wing", with the examples of Robert Mugabe, Pol Pot and Stalin

Because before visiting this home-page people usually think otherwise? That Stalin was a live and let live libertarian?

Some of those questions are pretty darned loaded, tho... And the test does slant an awful lot to the left.

Skybird
02-08-06, 08:04 AM
Economic L-R -7.00
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian -2.77

That makes me hitting the mark of Neslon Mandela almost exactly, with Ghandi and Dalai Lama close by

Ooooh, and Iceman... :88)

But I question the whole thing. Too many question were given in a way so that necessary and most essential distinctions got flattened. That way, the score is distorted. Interpretation also is quationable. reality of acting and decision.making includes MUCH more than just two dimension. Even if one might be tempted to think that two dimensions are already one dimension too much, when looking TV.

Economic Left/Right: 2.88
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 1.18

Boy does this test lean <---------- LEFT!!!!!

The social "libertarian/authoritarian" issue itself is mislabeled - its a question of how much should government be involved in your, and everyone elses' life....

Economic Left and Right are more reasonable, although the questions do tend to create a left leaning result.

Economically I am probably as conservative as anyone I know, while I do think the role of government in the life of an individual should be minimized. And all I get is a 2.88 and 1.18? Yea - its slanted...

Good Hunting.

Of course the test has issues, even two variables are not enough to express all variety (therefore you can get an unlikely closeness between some people, because the thing that separates them is not included). Also, political tests are determined by how one defines certain groups, which is hard to do without bias. Also, a lack of axes may give people an option to compensate extremism with another extremism.

For me:
Economic Left/Right: 1.13
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -1.38
