MASSIVE TASKFORCE SIGHTED!

MAR 1942, near New York commanding IXC, patroling for the last 7days, sunk 3 merchants, weather has been terrible for days - heavy seas, heavy fog and nearly zero visiblilty, kept down alot by destroyers lurking nearby. So i decided to get the hell out of there and head to the GIB for some easy pickings.

Im in DG69 and get a message about a taskforce moving fast last known position CF66. Im not far from it so i hit standard speed and make way. Not long later in Grid DH16 i come in visual contact with a destroyer. Do a flyby and my Jaw drops to the floor. 4 CARRIERS, (2 in the lead 2 at the rear) 4 NELSONS, 2 CRUISERS & 4 what i think are called ARMED MERCHANTS?.
Im about 2800m away with 8 torps left im slowly making my way for a shot at the first two carriers. Theres only 2 destroyers one far off droping depth charges and one leading the pack. Hopefully i'll get lucky.

Anyways is this taskforce put in by the RUB mod. I mean did they edit files to make them larger TFs.

If only i had a full load of torpedos, was pretty frustrating watching a taskforce sail by. Result: sunk 1 carrier and damaged 1 Nelson Battleship - although she just kept cruising on like nothing hit her.

I just wondering how would i explain to my WAW commander if i met the same taskforce during a waw patrol, like ya said 4 nelsons. It wouldn't be realistic.

By the looks of it, no. I would like to know if anyone else has come across a huge taskforce with the RUB mod as i did. Cause i hope it aint just a one of incident. For some reason my game wont load after that mission - so ive start a new patrol 1939 and hopefully i'll get a second chance when i get around to 1942 :)

I was getting bored with RUB, then the taskforce pops up.

i had the luck to encounter a TF but it had only a FC and a lot of DD's, i was lucky i could send a salvo against the FC hit him and then i had to go down deep to evade the troublemakers upstaires LOL but at least i got myselfe a FC :rock:

your so lucky to encounter a Task Force, ive been looking all over and never seen one infact I havent even seen a cruise liner yet either :nope: To bad my Uboat wasnt in the area to help you out, right now its wreaking havoc around Gibraltar :arrgh!:

Man, on my first career I had sunk a few cruise liners and bogue escort carriers but it wasn't until my 45th patrol I sunk a King George V. I just started my 2nd career and on my 9th(I'm now on my 10th) I found a TF of three Nelson's with assorted DDs heading 180* moving at 25kts. I was somewhere north of Scapa(they were prolly heading home) and I was able to set up a firing solution and fire four fishes at the last one in the line. Two(!) torps detonated prematurely but two struck a meter under the keel directly under the smoke stack crippling it(just imagine if all four struck :damn:). I waited until his buddies moved on(cold blooded) and finished him off with one impact det. tropedo to his midships from my stern tube.

Only wish TF's moved slower...oh the possibilities...

IS THIS PURE LUCK OR WHAT.

On a WAW patrol in VIIC 1943. Ordered to AL28 i get there and the next day i spot a convoy, with a large taskforce sailing with it! I have just sunk a bogue carrier and T3 tanker. The taskforce consisted of 3 BB's one possible cruiser one identified as Nelson. 2 carriers one large and one the bogue which i just sunk. Can't take screen shots as WAW requires you play SH3 in 100% realisim, im at the moment reloading torpedes and going round for another attack. Will try and get close and take screen shot through my scope.
