Help needed: Ive got some video problems with my new Geforce 6600GT:
The sidebar is blurry and some parts in the crew managment system are blurry too (some times they are ok, though) :cry:

Some parts are blurry (the red arrows), some are ok (yellow)

Now the sidebar is ok. Most times it's alright in the 3d area's of the submarine and it's messed up when in the 'map' rooms. (Don't mind the strange colours it's .GIF)

Got the video driver set for best image quality for both main setting and directX in the driver's settings?

Both directX and and the video driver are set for the best image quality. That's not the problem the game looks awesome.

I can't resolve your problem, but I can say I've noticed *exactly* the same thing too in recent days. Seems to affect only the F5 (Nav Map) and F6 (TDC) screens and occassionally the crew management screen (ie "blurry" quals).

I have a 6600GT too that otherwise provides great quality. I just assumed that because of this otherwise great quality that it was a "feature" of the game. That is, for some reason SH3 was displaying the images at lower quality/resolution than usual. But it's just a minor annoyance for me.

Exactly the same problem, JScones. I hope someone solves this problem for us, although its only a minor annoyance, like you say. :|\

Does anybody have a 6600GT without graphic problems?

And if you do, which driver do you have installed and what are your video settings?

6600 GT here too. Same but even smaller glitsch. The sonarman's qual is a little distorted. Only this.

Great card, though. Bought it a month ago.

I have an Evga AGP version 6600GT that is about a year old.
Here is what mine looks like and the driver version.

Richard Zapp,

What dials are those you are using? (The red trimmed dials)

...and the scope also?
I have almost every mod ever made it seems but I don't recognize the scope being used.

No solution yet... I was hoping for one though. But there only seem to be people with the same problem, but don't know what to do about it either. And people who never have experienced the problem at all.

Ok I'm going to try the drivers (81.98 and 77.72). Thx Hartmann and Richard Zapp. :up: I'm using a tweaked version of the 81.97. So that could be the problem.

If that ain't working I will reinstall SHIII; maybe the files are messed up.

Richard Zapp,

Church and Schultz:

The gauges and scope are from Bordinstrumente 1.0 mod:

* High resolution, high quality textures
* Improved legibility
* Replaces Silent Hunter 3 interior gauges and textures of Type II, VII, IX and XXI U-Boats
* New TDC screen textures
* New Periscope texture
* New UZO texture
* New LI reporting dials
* New taskbar dials

I have the same "blur" issues with the icons, some ratings and even the crew figures. I am convinced that it is one of the map-type mods that is doing it- they are just slightly off. You can see for yourself by going back and forth between F key views and observing the icons and other stuff.

I am running a very similar rig with a 6600 AGP 256MB card and the latest NVidia drivers.

Good find :up: I have given it a try too. I think you're right. They are slightly off indeed.

I'm going to roll back SHcmdr and disable Rub. Separatly ofcourse.

Hi, I'm running a 6600 256RAM, and I'm having the same issues, but they seem to pass in time... maybe SHIII is loading a low res bar, and then a hi-res one... I dont know...

No results, I still have got the 'moving icons effect' :( .

Could be, it's about the same as JScones pointed out before. Still I think the problem is fixable because some 6600GT users don't experience the problem.

*edit*
installed driver v77.77: no results

*edit*
installed driver v81.78: no results :damn:

I have almost every mod ever made it seems but I don't recognize the scope being used.

It's included in IUB (Improved U-Boat Mod).

I managed to isolate the problem a little more:

*edit*

Pressing the binoculars or attack/observation periscope icon or F3/o causes the problem
(from that point on mappingrooms/icons/menu bar are messed up, especially crewmanagment. The radioroom and some other rooms are still ok, though.).

Pressing the flakgun/deckgun icon or F11/F10 fixes the problem (crewmanagment and mappingrooms are ok again). :hmm:

So it seems that stations where 2D and 3D are combined, will cause problems.

:ping: Please confirm.

By the way, I also tried a 'menu bar'-mod. Well... that didn't worked either. :damn:

In an attempt to fix my sunglare I fixed this problem instead. Apparantly installing the resolution files was the only thing I had to do.

So if you've got this problem too:

download the dx9res10.zip file from http://u-boot.realsimulation.com and install the files in the SH3 main directory (only 2 files).

!!!If you've got SP2 installed use the Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit 4.0 to circumvent some security issues(otherwise it isn't compatible). For instructions read this:

Download and install the Application Compatibility Toolkit from Microsoft.
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/windows/appcompatibility/default.mspx

After it is installed, on the start menu, go to "All Programs/Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit 4.0/Tools" and run the Compatibility Administrator.

When the program opens, make sure New Database is highlighted under Custom Databases, and click the Fix button.

In the "Name of program to be fixed" box, type SH3. Now, click the browse button, and select the sh3.exe in your SH3 install directory.

Click Next.

Under "Operating System Modes" select None.

Click Next.

In the "Compatibility Fixes" box, check DelayDLLInit, and click the Parameters button.
In the "Command Line" box, type d3d9.dll and click OK. (You can click the "Test Run" button to make sure it is working.)

Click Next.

Click Finish.

Click the Save button, name it SH3, and click OK.

On the File menu, select Install.

Close the Compatibilty Administrator.

Enjoy SH3.
