Which of the stock emblems do you like best (and why)?
I use the black cat - generally because bad luck befalls any who cross its path ;) .

If you've got a custom emblem I would like to see it and hear what lead to its creation.

I don't like to use real historical emblems, I see the game as 'alternate history' where I am the captain and therefor get to choose a emblem for my boat - not what the 'real captain' told me to ;) .

Hi there, U-108 here... I use Der Lechtturm, "The Lighthouse" since I figured it would be cool to have a boat that would be famous for getting its crew how (i.e. within sight of the lights of our home port), nice cozy warm fuzzy feeling :D Since I graduated from U-48, a Type 7 boat, to U-108, a Type 9b, I figured I might like to change her emblem to the 8-ball, but its bad luck to change a boat's name, and my boat has been having good luck thus far (see my sig), so in all likelihood, The Lighthouse she will remain ;)

I'm using the pig emblem since I think it both looks AND SOUNDS funny (in german, I mean)

A black cat I don't think would be a good emblem because sailors are suporsticious by nature.

Your emblem should be something to inspire your crew, not intimidate the enemy... the enemy doesn't give a bilge rats tale about your emblem because he'll NEVER get to see it. All he will ever see is those terrifying bubble trails in the water seconds before he ceases to exist :arrgh!:

Besides... a black cat?!?!? come on, what are you trying to say? that your riding a U-boat that is scared of getting into the water :P ? I agree on the black panther though... It is a fierce predator that will hunt down it's pray EVEN if it tries to escape into WATER... or was that the jaguar? any way, one of those two isn't affraid of the water, I'd strongly suggest you switch to that

Back to the pig... I chose it becuase the options where very limited (stock game on that respect) and... well, I fight dirty... as dirty as a filthy pig... I never give the other side a sporting chance... I just blow him from the water when he least expects it having never even shown my face to him.

I can hear the tommy sailors shout while they swin around the wreck "you Jerry swine, why don't you fight like a man and show your face?", and I just smile and think "I'd rather win!" :smug:

U-31 has the stock black cat. I used that because as someone else mentioned crossing the path of a black cat is supposed to be bad luck. Plus I have a little black kitten and she's very cute.

Georg Högel illustrates it in his book U-Boat Emblems of World War II 1939-1945

...the shipping symbol on the funnel of the British freighter Fanad Head, that had been sunk by U.30 on 14.9.1939 under dramatic conditions. It is supposed to be based on a competition for the heart and hand of a shipper's daughter from the days of sailing-ship captains. "Whoever is first to return home and place his hand on British soil" was to win the shipper's daughter. They came in bow to bow, and then--how macabre--one of the two rivals is supposed to have cut off his left hand and thrown it on land.

I use the Eisernes Kreuz mit Swastika, the Iron Cross with Swastika emblem just for my current campaign. For my next one I'm gonna try something else. I use the Churches Custom Emblems mod.

LOL close but wrong reason - check/look-up the emblem of the Gebirgsjäger.

But to answer question - yes once you have completed I think at least 3 patrols go to the section/area to modify boat. Should be a side emblem selection to choose from for your boat.

Many mods also allow different ones/variety or some like here have made their own which are very artistic. :up:

Thanks but all i see at the page are links to pictures and screenshots but no mods or pin up girls or even a "P" section.


EDIT: Finally found them, wasnt easy. Its a strange website indeed i found 2 links that i believe were the same but brought me to two different pages. Even doing a search for "pinups" on that sites' search engine came back with 0 results.

I went through all the pinups. Most of them seem to be from a later era (the 1950s) and some of them are certainly 'Vargas Girls'. I chose this one because to me it just seemed more 'German' than the others.

The first emblem on "my" U-48 was the Flotille insignia, followed by the "White Penguin." When myself and my crew moved on to U-568, I adopted the "Schwarzes Drakkar" (Black Norse Longship) and it remained that from 1942-1945.
