View Full Version : Starforce pressing charges against critics?!
http://www.boingboing.net/2006/01/31/starforce_threatens_.html
All i have to say is WOW. :-j
From now on i'll never buy a game with SF on it. Not because of the protection itself as i have had no problems with it, but threatning critics is taking it to far :o

I´ve already commented this in another thread, I think he´s a fool and that he doesn´t deserve any better. Full comment here:

Censoring, deleting postings and banning people who asked too many questions from their forums (as has been reported repeatedly: sometimes even after the fist posting of a newcomer, if it was no outcry of joy and enlightenment), always was part of their intentionally criminal agenda. For me they are bad-meaning hackers, and their intentions are criminal: doing harm to users, at least accepting that damage is done to a good ammount of them while making profit from that enterprise at the same time. To hell with them. Their way of acting and treating people with rightful and justified complaints pissed me more than the malware itself. Hope they end bankrupt and all their responsible staff living in cold under a bridge, eating dogs and rats .

I'm tired of this starforce crap. We have better stuff to worry about.
Honestly, I hope they DIE!

But... but... but -I just have started...! :damn: Thinking of a possible wanna-have-simulatiojn in the future that is forbidden to me because it is infested with this pleague makes me feel... sad... and lonely... and misunderstood, somehow...

Well, never forget: "express your thoughts in reasoned and responsible terms". What you wrote was an intolerable rant.

A rant. Should I start ranting, just to demonstrate the difference? ;)

What would you add to a "real" anti-SF rant? Death threats? Or saying bad things about their mothers? ;)

It is not clever if two of a board's moderators carry out their disagreement in public, therefor Gizzmoe received a PM.

Hope that EA won't use Starforce in the future.

He is not a fool. His words are accurate, and Starforce probably doesn't want to sue him since then their faults will become public, but I doubt that will stop them.
Starforce has some major issues. I refuse to have it on my system anymore. I just wish MS would re-force its patch after a Starforce Install - disabling starforce, but they are caught between a rock and a hardplace on that one. Damned if they and damned if they don't since eveyone would complain that their fav game stopped after installing some patch to fix the SF flaws.

So you are agreeing with him that SF destabilizes and crashes the computers on which it is installed? Every computer?

The way I see it, it's all a rumor, based on the fact that I can't confirm how bad Starforce is. SF really hasn't affected me, so I have to trust what other users are posting at message boards; I have to trust that they're telling the truth...
But the fact about rumors, is that they're based on the truth... At least partly.
If so many people are claiming that Starforce hurt their system, half of them might be lying, but then at least half of them are probably the real deal.

That depends - I have seen erratic behavior on mine because of it, and even a crash or two - which is why it not installed on mine anymore (ANd my machine is now perfect!). I have also had issue with it screwing up the simple burning of CD's. Other people may not realize it, and just contriubute some sort of erratic behavior it to some sort of a bug in MS's SW or soemthing else. SO the question is really - how many systems is this causing a problem on? Is it every system in some form or manner?
Also, even thought some systems may appear to still function normally - you cannot deny that it is a major security risk in the form that it could give any virus that is tailored to work with SF drivers the ability to instanlty kill your system resulting in you having to go out and 'buy' ($$$) new hardware - this wouldn't be a simple case of just reloading your OS.

PS.. Not only that, but the fact that it modified the 'core' system, how can it not cause an issue here and there? It would be impossible.

Read the CNET article on it. It will offer even more insight. Oh - and they were threatened to be sued too! Imagine Starforce sueing CNET! I'd love it.
