Night surfce attacks?

Im on patrol 2, its 2nd December 1940, finaly got my first convoy!
Its a clear night no moon calm no waves still prittey dark.
The covoy is large ive spoted a flower corvet and a friget escorting.

Should I go in for a surface attack or submerged, if i so
how close should I get befor I fire my topedos? at what range do you become visibal?

You should be able to get pretty close, since RUB incorporates one of the better Sensor adjustment mods. I've fired in those conditions from as close as 500 meters without being detected. The escorts are better than that, so I'd try to stay at least 2500 meters from them. Give them a wide berth and the merchants usually won't see you until you're real close and it's too late.
