I once asked you if ANZAC day commemorated the Aussie-Kiwi Gallipoli campaign.
Next question: what stands Australia day for? Is it a kind of Independence Day?
By the way: congratulations!

Firstly regarding the significance of the date for Australia Day. It is the day in 1788 that the British Penal Colony in New South Wales was set up. It was not until 1901 that the colonies of Australia federated ad became te Commonwealth of Australia. Australia Day is really whatever you want it to be. That could be just a day off work. It could be celebrating the things that make us Aussies. It could be hanging out with family and friends or going over to the mates house for a barbie (BBQ). A celebration of national pride really and about who we are. :)
Yep a good day on a painful 40'C day.
Like Konovalov said, its a day to commerate the First Fleet from Britain arriving in Sydney Harnour to set up the colony now known as Australia.
