:o

I transfered to 2nd flotilla cause i wanted to try the Type IX.

What happens is i cant TC over 1x cause its too close to land (i think). It takes some 20 minutes just to leave port. :damn: :stare:

Any way to tweak this TC limit ??
Or any workaround this ´problem´ ?? :stare: :stare:

I don't know how, but I know for sure that you can edit a config file that will let you increase the time compression near land.
I'm sure someone will come here to tell you how to do it!
I always use Lorient as I prefer the type IX sub...just got used to it.
I plan a course ouside the port, leave the game going while having some coffee and a cigarette... and when I'm back, voilà, the sub is in the Biscay Bay ;)

Two ways:

1. Open "main.cfg", NOT the version within the SH3 game structure but the one under your "My Documents\SH3\data\cfg" folder (ie save game folder) and change the "LandProximity" value under [TIME COMPRESSION] to something like 512 (that's what mine is set at).
2. Use SH3 Commander and under "Options>Time Compression" change the "When near land" value.

Just be veeerrrryyy sure that you plot your course carefully anywhere near land, 'cause if you changed that TC setting to 512 you will be SERIOUSLY aground and damaged/destroyed before you know it if you hit land at 512 TC

HEH. I pulled a boner the other day. I plotted my course all the way to my destination port, engaged the engine at ahead slow, stood there on the bridge looking at all the people waving bye, feeling warm and fuzzy, then got bored, hit TC, and next thing i knew i had collided into the sandbank due east of the lorient dock you start out in.

I had forgot to tell the navigator to follow the course i had set. :damn:

Another suggestion. When leaving or entering port in 1942-43, when ships have radar, your TC will likely drop when a radar signal is detected, even though these signals are emitted by local friendly ships.

To bypass this, I put my radio operator to rest when near port.

i dunno you guys... leaving port is one of the most engrossing parts of the game for me...

the leg out from Lorient to open ocean is a time to be aboard the sub, on the bridge and below at the nav stations checking the departure course... looking for landmarks you can make fixes on... stowing the food in the lockers... and generally making sure the ship is ready for patrol...

not on a god view map looking down on the world and plotting gps-like fixes for the sub to follow...

departing without automatic gps-like waypoint aids... and at night... is one of the more immersive and challenging opportunities the sim gives you...
to rush through this part of the game is doing yourself a great disservice...

it's like not bringing your wounded sub all the way back to port... takes so much away from the game...

Same here. One of the reasons I don't take the 'Free Cam' offline is so I can watch my sub go by from the viewpoint of other ships, or even the patrolling aircraft.

I love sailing in and out of port; never get tired of it.

Thanks JScones

I only had one career with the 2nd Flot. I got fed up with the time it took to get out of base, I shall use your tip great I can have another go at the long range U-Boats :D
