I am currently using the Microsoft Encarta 2001 Atlas and think that after 5 years it is time to update.
I noticed that Encarta dies not sell just the atlas anymore, it is now part of a whole ancyclopedia. Do you huys and gils still recommend it or are there better atlases around ?
Drebbel, I use Vector Clobe for map making in DW, Bill gave me the tip.
I like it very much.

Vector Globe is now called "World Navigator SE". Whatever the name, it's a great program and inexpensive, too! ($29.95) :yep:

The maps look great. How often are they updated ?
And can one zoom in/out step-less with the Standard Edition ? What is closest zoom that still looks decent ?
How good are the names of waterways (canals/lakes/streams/bays/coastal areas/islands) ?
Does is use the real names of places, or the incorrect translated English names ?
Maybe one of you could get me a detailed pic of Holland, including the islands. So I can jusdge for myself.
This is the standard version. Zooming go's in steps though, and no canal names in the standard version..

Actually, you can set the camera's 'altitude' to any value, so I 'think' the zooming is continuous. :hmm:

I noticed that the screenshots on the publisher's homepage actually show North America only. Is the rest of the world covered at the same level of detail? I'm looking for such a map software myself, but I am still undecided

Yeah, covers the whole world. I've used it for nearly every scenario I've built for the past few years.

Looks better than the old Encarta I have myself (97). I probably follow your recommendation then. Thanks!

Dang, lakes and canals have no names. That makes the maps kind of totally useless for me :-(
Anyone knows which version does have that ?

I have emailed Cartografz and asked them which version supports waterways/lakes/canals/etc, hopefully they will reply soon.

Thanks but that doesn't even work on my system :-( Probably protected to work with Windows and IE only.
