I am wondering is anyone out there uses the RAGE 128 pro ultra GL AGP video card for SH3, and if so, how well does it work for it.

Thanks!
Midgetsub.

Rage 128 pro is a card from 1999! were in 2006 now!
you'll be lucky if that card runs SH2 let alone SH3.

I ran SH3 on my PIII 1.2Ghz PC with a GF4 TI 4800 with no probs. The only thing I have updated of late is my Vid Card to a GF FX 5900. Look at it this way, if you try it and its a no go, at least you now know beyond any doubt, I mean whats it cost you, nothing but a bit of time (assuming this is an old card you had laying around). Dont always dismiss older tech out of hand, sometimes it can surprise you.

And yes I'm still using my PIII, in fact in many instances it out performs some PIV's.

This card will not work, there is absolutely no doubt about it. It only has 32MB RAM and only supports DirectX 6.0, no Pixel Shader, no nothing. Your old Ti4800 is high-tech compared to that card.

Never having used or sold ATI cards I'm not familar with what types do what. But what I said does to to some extent still apply (just not in this case :) ). Old tech can at times surprise you.

I once tried running SH3 on Geforce 3 TI200 (64MB) this card is from about 2002, i got as far as loading up a campaign and the game fell over, this card is significantly more powerful than the rage 128 pro, at the end of the day you need at least a 128mb card that supports pixel shaders.

Bump!

Talking videocards:

I just got a Club3D GF 6600GT 128 MB GDDR3 RAM. Which is pretty nice, performs good and all. Except that it won't let me run SH3. At all. Doesn't even get to the Ubisoft-thingy, just black screen and then it reboots.

When I got the new card, I updated Forceware drivers from 81.85 to 81.98.

I was just wondering if anyone experienced the same?

(Btw, before I upgraded, i was running SH3 on a GF4 Ti4200, almost flawless.. :) )

Do you use RUb or IUb? If so, delete both 0-byte wmv files from data\movies\intro.

Are those played before or after the logo screens? :hmm:

Logo screens? If you mean the Ubisoft logo video right after the SF check, that´s also a wmv file (data\movies\intro\logo.wmv).

No, I meant the black SH3 startup screen. The question is what was meant by "Doesn't even get to the Ubisoft-thingy"?

If it gets past the SH3 startup screen, then it sounds like a WMV file problem. If he doesn't have RUb or IUb, maybe he's got DirectX problems.

In any case, as you suggested, mods or no mods, it pays to rename the 2 WMV files and see if SH3 starts up normally without them. :yep:

Sorry, I don´t get what you mean. After the protection check logo.wmv plays, then intro.wmv, then comes the loading screen with the progress bar, then the main menu. At least on my system.

"The Ubisoft-thingy" is the first intro-movie, with the blue/purple rings and stuff.

Anyway, "I" solved my problem:

After three reboots today(and god knows how many yesterday yesterday, i might add) it works.

I updated my mainboard-drivers.

Almost accidentially; Microsoft has decided to tell their custumers, what actually happens, when their hardware chrashes, and where to find updates to their drivers.
And SiS deicided to update their site, making it user-friendly, so that one can actually find the drivers needed..

I've tried to do update my mainboard-drivers for a long time now, but couldn't really find what I thought i needed. But today, I did. Yay! :D

Thanks, anyway.. :yep:
