View Full Version : Where's my tonnage?

With my initial attack on a convoy, I used all five torpedoes & successfully sank three merchant ships. After evading detection from the escorting warships, I noticed that one of my targets was stationary & slightly stern down in the water. Although I had two torpedoes left, these were inaccessible in external stores due to bad weather.
I knew I’d damaged the C2 &, as I was under no pressure to move off, I decided to hang around & watch it hopefully go under. 29 hours later, (winds still doin’ 15!) 5th October 1941 4:10 am it finally sank. There was no ‘Enemy unit destroyed’ message & nothing entered in the captain’s log!
I can only assume that if there’s too much of a time delay, don’t bother waiting around ‘cos you won’t get the tonnage.

:hulk: same thing happened to me i put two fish in a t3 tanker from a convoy it was dead in the water and when they convoy moved off i thought id wait for the weather to clear and finish with deck gun as no tin fish left.....3 days later weather still bad got bored decided to move away, less than half a grid square and come back....bloody thing was gone and no tonnage for me damn damn...damn them all :damn: :damn: :damn:
Maybe you badly damaged it but the rough weather eventualy 'sunk' it?
Just count yourself lucky you didn't put 3 torps into a 24k ton liner causing it to explode and sink without giving you credit :damn:

Has happened to me as well. I figured out that if you move away from a stationary target (due to it taking a hit from you) more then 20KMs, then that target disappears. The reason for this is that the game only renders ships etc. in 3D upto 20KMs or so. Beyond that nothing is rendered in 3D.
There is another unconfirmed theory, which i noticed a few times but could be a co-incidence, i.e., that i discoeverd the same type of ship travelling undamaged a little bit away from where I left it damaged and half sunk in water. Its as if moving away 20KM (i.e., out of 3D rendering range) allows the ship to auto-repair and start moving again.
Anyhow, I usually never wait more then an hour or so for a Ship to go down, as after that there is not much chance it will, so either try and finish it off yourself, or if you are empty, move away.
It was the patrol,in which we were ordered to report to Brest. We sunk a lg.Cargo, near Plymouth,it broke in half, the water was shallow, and each section touched bottom.Stern up & Bow up floated, could not get a lock, but lined up at zero degrees gyro angle fired and hit stern section.it still did not sink-with no tonnage credit.SOL.

I once torpedoed a T3 off the Florida coast and after coming to rest on a very shallow oceanfloor it just dissapeared without even leaving a sunk icon on my map and leaving me without any credit for it....
Seen it once and fortunately never again.
