Right, I'll bring in some stuff to prepare this thread.
Any which road, speaking as a person living in the UK, although I do agree that recent US policies have sometimes been a little radical, they helped us out when we needed it before and for that I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt for the time being.

It's okay, I'm not mad either. Just trying to hijack the thread before the hoo-haa hits the fan.
Anyway, let's get back to what is most important: That firetruck does not seem adequately secured. This constitutes a great hazard to any nearby observers. I am seeking to hold Oberon personally accountable for posting that picture and threatening the saftey of the members of this forum. For shame.
But they stole your fire trucks, didn't they?
:o
S'ok, our firefighters were probably on strike anyway ;)
As for the firetruck not being secured properly, I hold my hands up in shame but offer a free digital gift to help prevent any injuries.
It may also come in handy should this thread be taken seriously by anyone.

The firefighters may be striking again but cut them some slack. In todays society here in Britain firefighters no longer are exposed to just the dangers of fighting fires. British thugs are attacking firefighters at an alarming rate as indicated here:
http://www.manchesteronline.co.uk/men/news/s/167/167813_battle_to_halt_the_fire_hate_thugs.html
And there is this report today by Sky News:
http://www.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,30100-1209153,00.html
Scary stuff. What next? Will firefighters have to be armed with 9mm's or something? :nope:
Oh, don't get me wrong, I'm all for them getting a pay rise considering what they go through. My Granddad used to be a firefighter and was one of the original (I believe) members of the FBU (though not 100% sure on that, will have to ask him when I see him next) so when the strikes were on I sure as hell wasn't one of the ones complaining about it.
I was just trying to think up a witty comment for the moment ;)

Kapitain,
All jokes aside you could have worded this topic a little better. For a start you didn't have to go with the massive font, CAPS, and in red. Also it would have been better if your opening statement didn't begin with something like "Now I don't want to start off some flame war here!" Also it would have helped if you set the agenda of the topic with a little bit more direction. An example would be "Is United States foreign policy on the right track or the wrong track? State you position/opinion and reasons for this."
By doing something like this you may avert being labelled a Troll. I don't think there is anything wrong with the topic itself. It is just how you presented it which lends it not to be taken very seriously.

Well, I don't see Canada stepping up to the plate to try and solve any of the world's security issues. As a matter of fact they don't have the resources or the will to do it. It's easy to sit back and whine and moan about everything. By the way, Hugo Chavez could end up being a pain in Canada's rear-end also. It's not that hard to see that. But at any rate, I see Canada (like Europe) creating their own internal problems through massive, unfettered immigration from the Islamic world. I wonder how long Canadians will allow this. Will Canada call for America's help in the future if they need it? Yes, we Americans have plenty of criticisms about Canada as well.

By the way, I know how hard it is to get information about South America, just in case you are not properly informed, Brazil also wants to sell Fighter-Bombers to Venezuela and since these planes have alot of parts built inside the USA (along with technology) the Brazilian government was asked not to sell them.

Bill Gates?
Are you frakking kidding me!
As an American seeing topics like this I am caught between a rock and a hard place. I'm not the ideal patriot but I do Love my family and they are Americans so instead of saying America is good or bad I'll say America and Americans are a group of people with many different backgrounds and culture.
America isn't such a bad place, it has many things that many countries do not. To be honest I think its star achievement though at times corrupt is its Judicial system. I mean sure crooks get off at times but this is the only country I know of where a man can find a good enough defence to save himself. That may be wrong but the thing is its a freedom, a right he has that he would get nowhere else and if he really wasn't the crook then he was saved because somehow he had sufficient evidence. America is a double edged blade it is 50/50 everything so it will have points where its bad points outweigh the good ones but it always, /ALWAYS/ balances itself. We're not all that bad we haven't had a race riot in ages and nor have we had a holy war. I don't know for sure though, because sadly America is misinformed. Our media is more corrupt then our government so I couldn't tell you what is going on outside of what I see when I walk out my door.
So bash the government, but blame the aristocrats. It is the rich people who run those parts of the U.S. and they have grown so powerful that the people can't stand against them. But The American people, and I can't speak for all of us or the majority because I just know my friends, my family, my neighbors, my co-workers, hell even my boss are good people and would do anything to help anyone. No matter their creed, because we all have done it before. And we did it Without the fancy helicopters, or the 1000 manpower or the infinite amounts of money.
We do what we can, me and my little community. So to be honest I can't say All Americans are this or that nor this group of Americans approves this and not that. So if you can do it, please tell me how, because I'm an American and haven't been able to do it in 30 Years.
America is not a single people we are many people. I think I remember once Australia had some media guy say he'd, "pay for anyone who assaults any American they see.".. Another media person wrote in reply, " Good Luck with that, Americans are all different colors, all different shapes and sizes. They have many accents ranging from Asian to Canadian. They have all sorts of different religions and beliefs. So The only way to find one besides looking at his passport, was to hear his accent but even then you may mistake a Canadian and oppress the wrong countrymen rather then oppressing the one you wanted."
word for word, I'm unsure if that's what it said but the point is people make America, America doesn't make people and right now the idiot people are in charge but they won't be for long because it will balances itself out.
Hope that helps in helping you define what America is before giving opinions on it,
Mustang

Bikini doesn't sound like a French word. I thought the bikini was named after Bikini atoll where the US did all those nuke tests in the 50's.
I think it was a Frenchman who invented it and named it after the tests going on in Bikini at the time. In any case because the effect was like a bomb. :know:
Yes I googled: :-j
http://www.bikiniatoll.com/Bikiniwaxing.html
HISTORICAL TIMELINE OF THE BIKINI BATHING SUIT
FROM PEOPLE MAGAZINE (A revealing history of the timeless two-piece)
1946: An explosive year. Bikini Atoll becomes no Bikini at all. In Paris, engineer Louis Reard quietly unveils a swimsuit of the same name. The world yawns.
1951: Bikinis, perhaps seen as an unfair advantage to the wearer (and as potentially dangerous to the health of some judges) are banned from beauty pageants after the Miss World Contest. The tasteful one-piece reigns supreme.
1957: Bikini-clad Brigitte Bardot frolics in "And God Created Woman," creating a hot market for the swimwear. Coincidentally, Hollywood markets 3D glasses in theaters.
1960: Brian Hyland sings "Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini," triggering a bikini-buying spree among American teens.
1963: The bikini meets a challenge in the generous form of Annette Funicello. The ex-mouseketeer's "Beach Party," with singer Frankie Avalon, leads to six sequels, including the memorably titled "How to Stuff a Wild Bikini" (in 1966). No special effects were used.
1964: The bi- ("two") kini becomes the mono- ("one") kini, in the eyes of designer Rudi Gernreich. The Vatican denounces the topless garb. An unrepentant Gernreich sells more than 3,000 suits in less than a season in Europe. More Americans go abroad.
1966: The bikini grows fur in "One Million Years B.C.," which catapults comely cavegirl Raquel Welch to stardom despite mixed reviews of the saggy screen saga.
1970s: Rio and St. Tropez produce the Tanga suit-- also called the Thong, the string bikini or "dental floss." The uncomfortable design becomes de rigeur for teen posters, muscle car magazines and boxing ring girls who announce the rounds.
1983: Carrie Fisher, as Princess Leia, wears an ornate version of the bikini (studded collar optional) in "Return of the Jedi." Even Yoda notices. The film is the most successful of the George Lucas trilogy.
1993: Score one for the "sports bikini." The hugging halter-top design becomes the rage, thanks to Volleyball queen Gabrielle Reece and MTV.

I'm not actually speaking about your knowledge, but misinformation in general.
In the article it mentions the Brazilian planes as:
light combat and reconnaissance [aircraft]
But Hugo Chavez himself said they were:
Trainers
However, the ultimate truth is, according to the manufacturer and the Brazilian Air Force, that these aircraft are multipurpose fighter-bombers, yes, the old style, it's a poor man's turbo-prop F-16, it can be employed as reconnaissance aircraft, sure, so can an F-16. Can it operate in "light combat"? Sure, so can an F-16, but usually you don't think of a reconnaissance or a "light combat" aircraft as being capable of bombing, just like an F-16, but with lower payload, and that is not informed in the article nor was said by Hugo Chavez, it is not the trainer version he wanted to buy.
So the point is, Hugo Chavez already had a deal with Russia for helicopters and small arms, so, why did he chose to buy planes with American technology if he could simply call Putin and ask for the MiGs? To make noise, obviously, to victimize himself, obviously, and to pretend he has an alternative, he is smart, he is going to dribble the Americans, he found the solution, he is going to buy Russian planes! Well, he knew that all along, and he planned it all along, Hugo Chavez was not surprised by the American interference, he aimed for it from the beginning, and the press in general fell for his little trick like a puppy.

America could be bad too. But so is the rest of the world since a lot of the rest of the world follows along these same lines:
"The society of late twentieth century America is perhaps the first in human history where most grown men do not routinely bear arms on their persons and boys are not regularly raised from childhood to learn skill in the use of some kind of weapon, either for community or personal defense - club or spear, broadsword or long bow, rifle or Bowie knife. It also happens to be one of the rudest and crudest societies in history, having jubilantly swept most of the etiquette of speech, table, dress, hospitality, fairness, deference to authority and the relations of male and female and child and elder under the fraying and filthy carpet of politically convenient illusions. With little fear of physical reprisal Americans can be as loud, gross, disrespectful, pushy, and negligent as they please. If more people carried rapiers at their belts, or revolvers on their hips, It is a fair bet you would be able to go to a movie and enjoy he dialogue from the screen without having to endure the small talk, family gossip and assorted bodily noises that many theater audiences these days regularly emit. Today, discourtesy is commonplace precisely because there is no price to pay for it."
