Inquisitive minds would like to know.
It's a simple and straightforward question... PLEASE VOTE. :yep:

Ditto what Takeda Shingen said. My problem is, I spend too much time surfing the forum and I end up with no time to play the game :damn:

I just had to dump it off my system so I could run another game. I really need a new hard drive. Not to worry though. Ill come back to it like I have done many times in the past.
Yes...but not nearly as much as I used to.

Yes, I still play it. What keeps me facinated, of course, is all the spectacular work put into this sim from the MODDING community.
In some respects the modders are like the "Borg"...once SHIII infected the collective, they have morfed it into something useful.
Almost daily for 2005 [it] has continually changed...for the better. 2006 is shaping up well also.
Tnx,

Yes, I do but not nearly as fervently as I used to, guess the novelty has worn off ages ago. Although just in terms of out-of-the-box plus patches it's really great stuff, I've started to play other games a lot more these days as well. One could say I'm taking more shore leave while waiting for some mods and SH4, continuing my current career when in the right mood.

No, I´ve stopped playing it about two or three months ago, one reason was that it became too repetitive.

Did not play it for several weeks; but always changed the campaign with mission editor. Last weekend I played again for some hours.. it just keeps rocking trying your own changes in the campaign :)
Haven't played in a month and a half...well I started a IX career from Lorient and man those trips to Cape Hatteras and Florida are loooooong. So I can't play as often. Next career the Med. :arrgh!:

I started back up after a couple of months away. Its better than it was when I put it away. The MODS make this game so much better than the original out of the box.

Pretty much on a daily basis ever since the game came out. The never ending parade of mods is what keeps me plus the community on this forum. If it wasn't for both I'd be long gone.
I used to be into flight sims big time but the their forum community is nowhere near the guys here. IMHO

Yeah, no flight-simming community compares to this.
Btw, if you guys are wondering why I would make such a lame poll question (think about it: if all you did was visit this thread, then you have to vote), it's because I'm trying to see if the community still has any interest in SH3, to determine how much will new mods be appreciated.
:) Keep voting! Thanks!

Just think of how many mods would not have had to be made if only ubi could have given the Dev team 2-3 more months!

I would play it more if it was in the pacific & I agree with Gizzmoe
its too repetitive. In fact I am still on the 1st campaign 7 patrols 3 ships sunk & all the medals but 1 & it keeps up like this it will be collecting dust & I'll play Pacific Aces.

Tks for clearing that up. Was wondering who the "interested parties" were :)
Found myself voting automatically... possibly from the sheer relief of seeing a poll that would:-
1) Give the setter an unambiguous answer to their question
2) Be incapable of misinterpretation by anyone viewing the results.
A marked contrast to the " Did SF totally destroy your computer or not" poll currently featuring on this page.
Pretty sure results will show that we still want mods. Still plenty of stuff to do, I think.

I totally agree. We definately need a break from all the SF threads. I dunno about you guys, but simple polls like this one seem to be more fun.
And like Cheapskate says, the answers speak for themselves.

Yes, I still play but I find myself playing more IL-2 Sturmovik+Forgotten Battles & Pacific Fighters. There are some excellent 3rd party historical campaigns out there.

I guess you could say I play, but I haven't been on patrol in campaign mode since this past summer. I've spent all my time modding in new ships for the game.

In many ways, modding for a game can be much more fun then actually playing the game (I know because that is what I did with flight models for RB3D). :yep: :yep: :yep:

I kinda burned out on the subject of submarines about six months ago. Only recently started dabbling in SH3 again. Glad to see the RUB mod took away one of my bigger pet peeves: The Rackup Easy Renown Lone Merchant. I especially hated seeing them so late in the war.

No, not right now. I've been off it for two or so weeks (shamefully enough, but I really can't play it right now). And before that, there was another month or so that I was too busy to play it.
I will be back to it soon, I hope. It's a shame because I'm supposed to be helping with modding/mod testing :dead:

No, I´ve stopped playing it about two or three months ago, one reason was that it became too repetitive.
This is why i will occasinally do unrealistic things for FUN.
Theres two types of SH3.
- You can play SH3 the simulation.
- You can play SH3 the submarine game.
I'll do both. Occassionaly ill play for realsm, and then ill play it like an action game.
My latest antic was modding a type II do have a surface speed of 30 knots, crash speed faster then a C/41, and HP's to match an IXD2 and *tried* to run through the gibralter mission on the surface :rotfl:
I sort of forgot escorts can get up to 35 knots. Was intresting watching all those escorts chase my tail and creep up on me gunning the whole way, bullets wizzing about, shell splash's everywhere! Unrealisic as hell, but damn fun!
I think one thing that adds to the tedium of a campaign is its usually one of two thinigs.
-approach a single merchant and sink him
- approach a convoy and sink a couple
repeat and rinse.
But you know, every now and then, its damn satisfying to rake a trawler or fishing boat with gunfire! (AA guns or heavy flak) :arrgh!:
Planes too. This is one reason i wont install an improved airpower mod. yes, being able to shoot down planes is unrealistic, but is it fun? HELL YEAH! I will fight it out on the surface because of this.
By mixing the ratio realim vs fun gameplay, i manage to keep myself intrested and not bored.
of course i play it ... silent hunter 4 isnt out yet
whats that merchant fleet mod i see advertised up there ?
where can one get it ?
thanks

Wolves at War will prolong your game, i think the reason why SH3 is still on my drive is because of WAW. Every two weeks approx we are of on another patrol all contributing to the atlantic war. Your only allow certain mods though RUB, SH3Cmdr and Waw realism mods (i think graphic mods are ok). And play at 100% or officer help enabled. When we have our orders and we all set sail, its like we are actually off to sea :D

Haven't played in a few months. Been on the road a bit working on subs. Thinking of uninstalling it and doing a clean install with some mods etc. Kind of lost track of the mods I had put into it.

Constantly. I play strictly for simulation value, and only play campaigns. I finally was able to afford a copy of FS2004, but I find myself having to look for extra time to play it, as beautiful as it may be.
Even when I have SHIV, I'll still play SHIII. Until something comes along I find even more absorbing.
I left a campaign with IX type, transatlantic missions. too much time needed.
maybe in a month or two I'll be back but at the moment I'm bored.
the game deserved best sim of the year award anyway. I've put many many hours of gaming in it.
thanks devs!, thanks sub community!

Of course I still play it. Am still in 1942, so many years to go for me !
I voted 'No' because I havn't played for about 2 months.
I'm sure in another month or so I will be back and enjoying it even more than before :yep:

 keep the mods coming...
I play but limit my time and try variations on careers time, crew, etc...with the SHcommander program.
Also using IUb right now.
:lurk:
When I first got it I was on it everynight. Now it's once or twice a week but hey it still rocks :rotfl:

Been trolling for a while. Been playing HOI2 and finally came back to pick up my campaign again. Finally trying some manual targeting, adds a lot to the satisfaction.

I just started playing this game about three weeks ago, so of course I'm playing it. Still in my first campaign, about a dozen or so missions in, still trying to decide which mods to put in first. I got this game shortly after its release, after remembering the fun I had with SH2 a couple years prior. I had just upgraded my video card, and got SH3 along with a couple other games in celebration, then got home and AFTER I opened it did I realize it was DVD-Rom, which I did not yet have. So I put it on the shelf for later as I had other games to play until the price of DVD drives dropped a bit. Finally got a DVD drive as a X-mas present to myself, only 39.99 at Fry's for a double-layer 16X DVD-RW! That's practically stealing it, in my opinion.
As for this forum, I am already finding that I'm spending way too much time here. Forums are great in that its one of the only ways you can narrow down the earth's 8 billion population to include the most number of people that have that one same particular interest, which of course makes for great conversation, in many ways better than you can find in person I have to admit, at least about that one particular topic.

Yes I still play, because I just got it this month :P
Anyway, I think it has good potential to last for a long while, but we will see. Right now the only reason I don't play it non stop is to surf this forum.
There is one dangerous thing that I see, though. The lame "go to grid XXXXX and stay there for 24 hrs" routine, how about sending me on a different type of mission from time to time? Plus the fact that you allways loose the war on the same day no matter what.
Mmmm... I feel like another mod suggestions is forming in my head :hmm:

I got it about two months ago so I play it about twice a week now. I too enjoy the Mods enormously (RuB1.45 and the NYGM mods plus some others) and play at about 70% realism. I am looking forward to the upcoming new merchant ship pack from Iambecomelife et al.
As I think the original reasons for picking the Atlantic over the Pacific theatres for SHIII still hold true I am not sure that SHIV will "grab" me in the same way. For me, it will need to have something really special for me to buy it - simply new subs and a new campaign will not be enough.
Regards
Malcolm
