Read in the paper about this deal, nothing on the web yet. Maybe the dutchmen here have info? Seems that the NL defence forces has decided that they dont have use for these systems anymore. Finland has been after these for some time. The M270 gives Finnish defence forces long range capacity that it is developing. There has been talk previously that they would like to also aquire the Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) guided missiles for the system. The Block IA missile extends the range to more than 300km. http://www.missilesandfirecontrol.com/our_products/firesupport/ATACMS_BLK_IA/product-ATACMS_BLK_IA.html Together with the Finnish Air Forces plans to aquire the Storm Shadow or JASSM cruise missile for its F-18s, it would be a considerable increase to the capabilities of the FDF  http://www.aerospaceweb.org/question/weapons/q0120.shtml EDIT. Forgot the Taurus that could be a strong candidate after this deal. http://www.defenseindustrydaily.com/2005/10/spain-orders-taurus-missiles/index.php

Interesting. Somewhat related question: would you happen to know if the Finnish AF uses JDAM or the Fin/Euro equivalent?

PD Not yet, the FAF is creating its air to surface capabilities. Before they had only an air to air mission. I believe the cost will make US products a strong option.

Does this say that the deal was for two batteries? http://www.mindef.nl/actueel/nieuws/2006/01/20060113_finland.aspx

Yep, two batteries of 9 systems each.
The reason of the sale was a financial cutback on defense.
