Ok i now have enough renown for a IX-B should i get it or wait a little longer for the IX-C. Its april 41 in my career and at the moment the ixb is available, but apparently in a few months the IXc will also be available, do i save my renown for the IXC ir get the IXB? I just cant wait to get my hands on either of the subs simply for the extra torps and extra AA fire power and im growing increasingly impatient.[/img]

Stock unmodified game, i dont think theres much of a difference. I could be mistaken but i belive both have the same range, with the iXC being SLIGHLY deeper in crush depth. By like 10 meters or so.

How its supposed to be is IXB slighly quicker on the dive, with the IXC having slighly longer range and slighter deeper crush depth.

I'd go ahead and get the IXB honestly, unless you modded it, theres not much of a difference.

Meh, ive come to learn that certain boats grow on you. I used to be a staunch user of the VII boats, and nothing but. Didnt give the type9s a second thought. Over time, well, they just sort of grew on me, and well, im hardly ever in a type 7 anymore.

The 2nd flotilla has become my favorite, my patrols usually last 70+ days, i get to go to far away places, and it beats the heck out of the usually "wait for a convoy" in the north atlantic. This isnt to say i can't or dont attack convoy's. Oh belive me i do, and with alot more thunder then a type 7 can bring to bear.

Before escorts start using radar more reguarlly, once you latch on to a convoy with a type 9, the fish start flying. Rush in fire two salvos', turn on your heal, shoot one more salvo, then go reload your tubes and hit em again!

A type 9s dive time is slower, but not that much slower. Going to flank before crash diving helps. The problem with Sh3 is it doesnt accuratly model the dive time that is listed in the manual. All 3 of which dive at about the same rate, although the IXD2 seems noticably slower. WHile modding, ive noticed the Main BT flooding for say a type 7B i think is around 9000. A type 7C is around 10000 (amazingly the XXI is 20,000 main BT flooding). All type 9s are listed at 7000 Main BT flooding.

Ive moded my game so the IXB has a BT flood rate of 9000 (similar to the VIIB which dives slower then the VIIB). IT dives faster, but not as fast as the VIIB. I made the IXC have a floodrate of 8000, and left the IXD2 at 7000 flood rateing. End result, in my game, the IXB has a crash time of around 31-32 seconds, the IXB around 33-34 seconds, and the IXD2 around 42 seconds. Thats how i think it should be with the VIIC still king of the hill at 27 seconds crash time.

Anyway, IX boats, if they grow on you, you come to love em. I think i may release my personal mods soon.

IXC dives a bit slower but not that much it'd really make a difference. It's range, however, is quite a bit more than IXB's so you can expect some really long patrols. I wouldn't bet on the additional flak that much since niners are big targets and turn slow, so you're better off avoiding planes altogether. But, if it goes to slugging it out, you want as much as you can get it, so...
Niners are nice boats, my favourites. If you plan to follow patrol orders you may want to get IXC for extra fuel but if you just go freelancing, upgrading IXB to the roof is more like it.

I've betted on that flak and won, ALOT :rotfl:

Once you have 2cm FK C/38 Flakzwilling, and a 3.7cm FK M 42 Twin, with stock unmodded planes, i stopped crash diving. (granted ive had ALOT of close shaves too).

Ive seriously considered installing the airpower mod to put the game back where its supposed to be. I shoudlnt be sitting there hoping for more planes to shoot down.

Doesn't the IXC have an extra torpedo?

I would rather be in a IXC rigged out to the max in AA than a VIIC rigged to the max. The VIIC is the boat you want in the Med but in the Atlantic go IXC - then IXD/2. And wait patiently for the XXI. :)

I started with the VII-B tipe but is better the IX-B.

I have got a IX-B and is not very different in dive times, only a few seconds compared with the VII and has More torpedos and tubes.
22 torpedoes.6 tubes
I can follow a convoy and attack 5 times ( 6+6+6+4)
with the supercharger i reach 20 knts in calm waters and has a long range at low speeds :|\ .

the patrols could be far away but i have the milk cow mod and i can reload my torpedoes and continue the patrol :arrgh!:

I play DiD and have never made it that far  but was wondering... if I did what flotillas get the XXI?

Neither have i yet. But the XXI can be found in Bergen around late 43, cost 9000 renown.
