career sub advancement

my first career started in the game still kinda new but I love it so far , only using IUB and shcommander. :) just have a couple quick questions regarding career mode.

Ive been playin the last 14 missions in my Type IIA U-boat, from Sept 1939, now its July 1940, when do I get to advance to new U-boats? or try more of them out? like the IID or VII-B :damn:

did me using IUB remove the option of advancement?

also how about docking at Wilhelmshaven? I can Return to base there but I cannot get all the options on the RTB screen. and have to spend another mission just returning to Kiel.

SH3 Commander includes corrected U-boat availability dates by Flotilla. The impact is most felt in the 1st Flotilla... The IID becomes available in Sep40, the VIIC in Mar41, the VIIB in Jun41 (yes, after the VIIC) and the VIIC/41 in Jun44. The VIIC/42 never becomes available (just like real life).

Fortunately, if you're not happy with these corrections, they are adjustable/removable. Just look at the second last Q&A here (http://www.subsim.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=45430).

Another thing you can try is applying for a transfer. Use that phone on your desk in the pre-mission screen. Try going to the 7th flot.

Yeah, SH3Cmdr Release 2.4 (fabled release date imminent). It will allow you to choose any sub available to the selected Flotilla up to the selected career start date when you *start* a new career.

Once you're in the game, you're limited to the subs available to the selected Flotilla. As Deimos01 says, go for a transfer, unless you want to edit Flotilla.cfg and Basic.cfg yourself?

A lot of people have broached this subject - if I get a chance I'll throw together something that allows for more dynamic, albeit non-realistic, U-boat availability. I've done it in testing, but never bothered keeping the changes.
