I have been playing Sh3 for a while now... Probably a year and i have YET to see a task force. And TODAY IS NOT ANY DIFFERENT!!! Finally on Dec 11th 1939 i get a task force report right above scapa flow! I plot and everything, but i look outside.. AND ITS POURING RAIN! HUGE STORM!! ARRG!!! I submerge and i can only watch and listen as my sonarman reports the HUGE task force pass some kms away in front of me. What a drag... Im playing Rub 1.45 with HT 1.47 and Chromus Full Mods and Navi Mod 1.01 or wutever. My first task force.... ANd i must let them pass. They are making 21 knots too. SO i will never catch up... ANd i think they just changed direction from NNW to South.... ugh... lame!!!!

As your playing RUB and HT, which are the same versions as me - the easiest way to get a task force (i've found) is to set up a career starting out of the La Spezia with the 29th Flotilla living up the "Dolce Vita" in the Med.

Being in the Med allows you to make use of the most fearsome passage of water for a u-boat (The Straits of Gibraltar) to your advantage  do your normal patrol grid and then work you way down to Gibraltar, and hold position on the eastern side, you don't even have to be close to Gibraltar as the southern end of Spain runs east to west and this funnels all traffic thru a narrow part of the med. just sit and wait for the task forces and battle groups to come to you! The area is so narrow that you can make short dashes north to south to get directly in front of the task force! They come thru regularly enough not to get bored!

Hope this helps

Thanks Herr Kaleun! But the storm has finally subsided, and i am directly in the path of another task force headed NNW off the coast of SPain CF coordinate. Hopefully i can plot everything perfect and get a contact/ even better a sinking! Cant wait cant wait! But work calls at 2oclock... SO i must continue late night tonight! Ill definately take the La Spezia/Gibraltar patrols into consideration tho, maybe ill transfer in 1940/41.

Ya know, its kinda funny. Ive been using IUB and there is a HK group that runs around E of Scapa Flow. I tried intercepting that thing like 3 times with no luck. So I gave up on trying to catch it, and wouldnt you know, I had that damn thing come down on me twice.

I've also been playing the game for about a year and have yet to find a 'real' taskforce.
I've attacked a few task-forces that were just a bogue escort carrier and some DDs, and found many a TF that was just 4-6 DDs :-? .
The only BB I've come accross was a King George in '40, I got to see it real close as it came out of the fog and rammed us :dead:

I might give the 29th flotilla a go also :)

I'm allways on the lookout for task forces. I've only come close twice. One was a Battleship, the other was a carrier in heavy seas.

I've taken to parking just west of the UK and waiting........I see them often enough, it's just really hard to get in front of 'em!

lol I tend to avoid a task force...tried to tangle once with six destroyers "task force" I found early on in my careers...not a good idea.

I have seen battleships in sail and for the torpedos needed to tonnage ratio when considering the speed vs tankers. I will wait for tankers to sling multiple eels at.

Although if I find a cruiser hiding in a convoy I have no issues sinking him to send the merchants in a scatter.

Also try up around Norway Spring of '40 look in the fjords if you want to tangle with warships....

I GOT HIM!! I GOT THE BASTARD!!!! A task force of a Bogue escrot carrier, 4 Southampton Cruisers and a buncha DDs were presently suprised when their Carrier exploded in a fury of 3 torps!! It was funny cuzz i caught them at night, and literally snuck in surfaced, i musta been 300 yards from the Cruisers, but they never saw me, not until the carrier was blowing up and i was doing a crash dive to 150 feet. I was even close to the DD on point and he didnt see me  Weird

Congratulations! Keep your eyes open around the convoys too. I got a Bogue out of a regular convoy in mid 1941. :know:
