** 1.38 **

************************************************** ************
================================================== ============
*** NOTE: This will bring your version of Jane's Fleet command
*** to version 1.38.
================================================== ============
This Installer includes the following updates
================================================
Fixes in this installation include:
- v1.38 of FleetCommand.exe (also available as a separate download)
- v1.00 scenario update (also available as a separate download)
- 3D update to fix the crash to desktop on launch of Phoenix missile
Installation Instructions:
--------------------------
***IMPORTANT: You must have Administrative privileges to install
and uninstall on Windows 2000/XP.
1) Download the patch (FleetCommandInstaller.exe) to a temporary
folder on your harddrive.
2) Insert your Jane's Fleet Command CD into your CD-ROM drive.
When the Jane's autorun splash screen appears, press Quit.
(If you have turned the autorun option off for your CD drive,
you may not see the Auto-run splash screen).
This is important for step (4) below.
3) Run/(double-click) FleetCommandInstaller.exe from the temporary folder.
4) A dialog box titled Jane's Fleet Command v1.38 Update should appear.
The dialog suggests:
"Please verify your Fleet Command CD is in your CD drive before continuing."
The drive can be a CD or a DVD drive.
The patch will look at what the operating system considers the default drive.
The dialog should also display the fixes in this installation.
If you already have the Fleet Command CD in a drive, go to the next step.
5) Click Yes on the dialog.
6) Another dialog titled: "WinZip Self-Extractor - FleetCommandInstaller.exe"
should appear.
Click "Unzip"
7) A small dialog will display: "18 File(s) unzipped successfully."
Click "OK"
8) At this point, the patched Jane's Fleet Command installer will start.
Follow the installation steps in the installer.
NOTE: It is not necessary to install DirectX6 components if you have a higher
version of DirectX already installed.
9) After installing this patch, you cannot use the autorun feature of the
original CD to play Fleet Command, you must start it using the shortcuts
that were installed to "Start-->Programs" or to the desktop.
Jane's Fleet Command is beyond it's technical support lifespan.
This patch is officially not supported.
Testing on this patch was limited, but nonetheless the patch
is believed to fix at least two crashes to desktop that have been
recently reported to our computergames email system.

Fun game, but it crashes way too often on my Win XP, wish there was an auto-save every 5 mins.

The game is not installed anymore, I gave up on it, I remember setting it to compatibility mode made it more or less stable but I would always crash, given enough time, and this was too annoying for me.
I tried Fleet Command after many years of playing Harpoon and I was disappointed with FC. If you haven't played Harpoon, I'd give it a shot. The visuals in Harpoon 2002 are very dated, but the strategy and constantly updated platform specs are excellent.
Hi, thanks for all help...
I'll try it at once...

That's because Sonolysts never bothered to fully fix the memory leak issue and other problematic issues that plagues Janes Fleet Command and corrupts saves at times.
I understand its an issue of money, but if they put some money into it and either redid or made a proper sequel to Janes Fleet Command, this issue would be much less previlant. Not to mention if they implimented alot of their DW content into it, the gameplay would be immensely flexible but realistic as well. (No, not I'm suggesting a sequel with 1 or 50 station controllable units.) Though support with it working with a sim like DW would have great potential.
People who prefer to work with a particular part (ASW helo, P-3, ASW FFG, submarine) could focus on that and let those controlling the strategy of the action guide and coordinate actions to bring victory. You can't ignore SAG's, CVBG's, and aircraft threats either, that's why strategic command is necessary but unfortunately gets left out of in these ASW sims.
Regarding Fleet Command stability, if the player does not run with max time compression through intense scenarioes and takes their time, usually crashes occur a LOT less often.
Not to mention the current Naval Warfare Project update for Fleet Command has numerous new models for units like the AEGIS equipped Spanish Frigate, MIM-104 Patriot site, EW sites, new model of the F/A-18 Superhornet, and much more.
I have Harpoon 2002 and its enjoyable from time to time, but having ineffective air defense by the AI is very annoying, and dummed down & useless passive sensors don't help either.
If you have any hardware/software questions about FC problems or want more info about the NWP project for Fleet Command, go to: http://forums.navalwarfare.org
There is also another modern naval strategy sim being developed called "Global Conflict Blue", worth checking out.

In online matches I prefer to have many ways to win, ASW focused sims tend to be too repetitive in their gameplay.
