I was never able to warm up to that show. Too many character changes, format changes, cute dolphins and by that point in his career Roy Scheider seemed forever typecast to chasing sharks. It was fun watching Shelley Hack overact as the evil sub CO in the pilot episode though.

Poor Roy Scheider. Jaws ruined his career.

The series became well after Michael Ironside as Capt. Oliver Hudson took over the command of the SeaQuest :ping:

I agree. Michael Ironside brought the show a lot of gravitas after Scheider's tired performance. However, it was at about that point that NBC and Universal decided to pull the plug on the series. Too bad.

Heh. Most people think the show started sucking after it's 1st season, when any attempt at realism went right out the window. And while I enjoyed Michael Ironside's preformance in the 3rd season, that wasn't enough to compensate for the suckitude of the rest of the show.

Seriously, even the second season was bad, especially after they found that ancient alien shiop on the seafloor bearing the message that "technolegy is death", then the entire sub got abducted by an alien spaceship to fight a war on an alien "waterworld" :damn:

100% agree with ya there, the show did it's thing the first season alright and then things just fell apart. The star trek idea works alright underwater, however the show lacked direction.... For example the episode where Darwin gets sick or worst of all the guest starring of Will Shatner

...or worst of all the guest starring of Will Shatner  That must have been so bad my brain blanked it out, cuz I don't remember it.

But with the lack of SciFi on TV these DVDs are worth buying. Its no Firefly, Space: Above and Beyond or Stargate but its better than whatever crap the networks are airing tonight. :yep:

All I remember about that show is the episode where the hot chick (pilot? not the doctor) offered to sleep with the teenage boy when they were all trapped in a cavern at the bottom of the ocean. The kid was going to sacrifice himself to save the others and the chick didn't want him to die a virgin. If only the writers had let him do it before revealing that it was all unnecessary!
