View Full Version : What did Christmas bring to YOU this year?

My question is a simple one: What did Christmas bring to YOU this year?
I'll start. Friday, December 23 2005, was the first day of the rest of my life. After spending the previous two years of my life being dedicated to amature dancing, I was finally given a job offer....
Near to the eve of Christmas, I began my professional dance instructor career. That was the night of my interview, and I remember being so scared... scared that I wouldn't get the job. Then the studio owner finally sat down with me and said, "Training starts on Monday. I'll see you then."
I don't remember EVER being so happy in my life... Thank you Santa! You've really made my dreams come true.
And so I hope that others have found joy and happiness in this merry holliday. I hope that in the Christmas spirit of love, giving and selflessness, that somehow your own desires have been fullfilled. If so, please share your experiences with us.
Dreams are wild, but if you work hard enough, St. Nick might just decide to reward you.... Merry Christmas.

That's not exactly the best gift in the whole world... ;)
I got to be a subsim mod :|\
Otherwise, it wasn't too great a Christmas for us unfortunately. A friend of the family didn't wake up yesterday - at all. It wasn't at all expected. He was only 40 :(

Ouch! Sorry to hear that CCIP. This thread has taken a grim turn. :(

Ok, going a little downhill, but the rest of the year will have plenty to offer. Sometimes you gotta stop for a breather, but life goes on with or without you... Now the choice is yours, move ahead or stay behind.
Sorry to hear that, CCIP.
Any other Christmas experiences (positive or negative, doesn't matter)?
Well, there's just some things you can't do anything about, other than perhaps to stop and think, and remember. :(

Congrats Markhimov, by the way.
Otherwise, I actually have to admit that Christmas is usually a kind of low-key affair for us - always great dinner though. Never a bad excuse for mom's cooking. But since my family is Russian, the real big party with all the presents for us is New Year's, so I'm still looking forward to that :88)

I dont recieve gifts on christmas. Those that know me know not too, co i'll just give the gift away to someone that really needs it. I like giving gifts but wont accept any. There are millions of people out there that are in need on christmas day, sometimes i'll donate money to food banks - organisations that feed the homeless on christmas day. And of course i buy myself a present wrap it up put it under my computer table thats my christmas tree and can't wait to open it on christmas day. :D

I thought Christmas was supposed to be a time of happiness, regardless of giving or accepting gifts?

I thought Christmas was supposed to be a time of happiness, regardless of giving or accepting gifts? You try being happy after wasting 30 miles of gas (when you have no $ to buy more till Friday) to deliver four packs of smokes, a bag of apples and a box of ho-hos to you're friend’s wife and ungrateful spoiled children from his mother. I can’t wait till my friend comes back from deployment overseas and gives his kids a hot a$$. They couldn't wait till tomorrow- my dad works 4 miles away, but nooo they had to have it now! :nope:

Hey try to cheer up guys. :yep: I think TLAM the $ on smokes should have went to gas. :-j
Anyway my X-mas day is over and I recieved:
A book I already have. :damn:
Some homemade shortbread cookies.
A bottle of Rum. :dead:
A 50$ gift certificate to an electronics shop.
And a strange thingymabob called a "Origional Mockingbird." :o
It hangs on your keychain and works by twisting some brass against wood, thus creating some apparent bird sounds. I couldnt quit playing with it so my favorite gift. Heck maybe it even works. :hmm:

That's what I hear from my friend. It's 10 times cheaper than an ipod, and it's just as good.

Nelson's Navy: The Ships, Men, and Organisation, 1793-1815
Lockheed Blackbirds (Warbird Tech)
Anatomy of the Ship: The Battleship Dreadnought
Animal : The Definitive Visual Guide to the World's Wildlife
Castles of Steel : Britain, Germany, and the Winning of the Great War at Sea

LOL, gift cards and cash are physical gifts.
1) You can touch them, see them, feel them, spend them, throw them away...
2) You can (and most likely will) exchange them for physical items...

The Navy Times Book of Submarines : A Political, Social, and Military History by Brayton Harris, Edited by Walter J. Boyne.
A great book up until 1939. The information on early submarines is great, but the narrative gets shaky during World War II, and falls apart afterwards.
Hope I didn't spoil anything for you! :rotfl:
(Actually, I have been working on a review of this book for Epinions.com. I oughta finish it...)

Great books guys...
Also for Christmas, I have decided to pull Combat Flight Simulator 3 from its dusty spot on the shelf. It was so crappy out of the box that I barely played it for a week before I put it away. Well, now I'm about to install it, patch it up to the current standards, and install a new mod, Over Flander's Field.
When I first saw the preview movie for OFF, I immediately said, "WOW! This is the game for me!"
Here's the link if you wanna see it: http://www.polovski.com/off/Movies/OFF-MOVIE1.wmv

Further information to getting Call of Duty 2 for christmas.........in the first stage of the game you are fighting in Russia against the Germans. So, it's the communists against the facists. This is very bad. Schlecht...........because neither side is good. So you are the bad guy fighting the bad guys.

Damn, I can't believe not one of you guys has admitted to getting socks and boxershorts/pants for xmas (I really hate that word)... Iceman came closest with slippers and pj's.
I got the gf her first guitar see here (http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://www.tanglewoodguitars.co.uk/images/contents/home/closeUp002.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.tanglewoodguitars.co.uk/home.asp&h=277&w=286&sz=16&tbnid=VsTuKGA1S4sJ:&tbnh=106&tbnw=110&hl=en&start=1&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dtanglewood%2Bguitars%26svnum%3D10%26h l%3Den%26lr%3D%26safe%3Doff%26sa%3DG) (or one very similar) am looking forward to teaching her in the new year...
What else? ...ah yes, my new leather swivel chair finally arrived about 10 days ago- I ordered it about 2 months ago, so it's kind of a christmas present to myself, but only due to its late arrival- long story short; it kept being delivered to the wrong address :hulk:
At last I no-longer have to sit on a folding camping chair infront of the pc.
Ate more food in the last 4 days than I have in the last three weeks! lol

ARGH! fear the sprouts of wrath!
that's about as many as I can handle until next year's christmas feast :o
COD2 arrived just before my holiday started :smug: finnished it now, great singleplayer game; really good. Not so good multiplayer, but that's probably just me not being used to it as my online shooter of choice is Medal of Honor Allies Assult - Spearhead.
I was thinking of getting a flight sim of some description seeing as the last one I saw/played was TFX on a 486 I'm a bit out of touch; anyone recomend a good one?

Get IL-2 Forgotten Battles: Aces if you're into the super graphics and amazing WW2 dogfighting. And also get Pacific Fighters if you're into that. You really cannot go wrong with these Oleg Maddox games.
Or if you want some fantastic WW1 action, get Combat Flight Simulator 3 and you can download the Over Flanders Fields mod free online. You'll probably hate CFS3 standalone, but you'll love OFF. Graphic wise, IL2 graphics pummel the graphics from OFF, but it's still pretty good. You can check a previous post of mine in this thread. I posted a link to the OFF teaser movie. Go watch it! :yep:
Ok, hijack done... Christmas anyone?

Well we have a real family Cristmas with four generations and all that. I got clothes, movies, books and kitchen ware, i like to cook :) But this Cristmas was toned down by two events. First my girlfriends former highschool classmate who was serving his service in the FDF was killed in an accident during mortar excercises, 6 others were wounded. The burial was just before Cristmas, she attended and was pretty shocked. Then a family that we know lost two small children 3 and 5 in age. :( They had run away and drowned in a river when the ice broke. Kinda makes you think another time when whining about some small thing.
