Well, well, well. As if the month wasn't bad enough, it just got worse.

Now, I've an incredibly good sense of hearing and I'm able to hear slightly higher frequencies then most people. So said the doctor anyway.

So, I had my headset with the mic on last night and I went to plug it in the mic portion in the back of the computer. Well, I got the wrong jack. Instant, extremely loud blast of feedback. Serious ringing in my ears for awhile but it went away.

Now here is the interesting thing. Not long after the sonic blast, I got extremely ill, in every sense of the word. Very tired, mood kinda went really downhill, audio and visual distortions. I ended up going to bed after a few hours. I still feel a bit...off today.

So I guess the question is, did the sound cause the sudden wave of illness or was it incidental? I'm inclined to believe it was the sound. I suspect it threw off the equilibrium in the brain, which in turn made me rather ill. This is just pure speculation of course. Sound of any kind today, is somewhat unpleasant in an unexplainable way. I don't expect the effect to last long but it's interesting nonetheless.

So the moral for today? Take off your headphones before you decide to screw around with the plugs. That's right kiddies, you could damage your hearing. Ouchie.

yes it can high frequency can cause heart attacks it has been known, also brain lapses and certain other medicle conditions UHF ultra high frequency can cause brain tumors and cancers (main live powerlines)

so be careful dont want to worry you though

I don't worry that easily. I was more fascinated by the effects then anything else. I wonder if someone fashion a device to emit at a certain frequency with enough power to kill anyone within range?

It would be an interesting tactical weapon, kill the enemy without harming the land they occupy. Or would it be just as harmful as any sound? Interesting idea, as opposed to dropping a nuke on something. I'll have to look that one up. :hmm:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sonic_weapon ;) You are not the first to have this idea. Infact a Sonic Weapon was used to defend that cruise ship when it was under attack by pirates.

There have been no definite studies linking EM radiation from powerline and cancers. Beside, you're talking about EM radiation frequency, not sound. A whole world of difference there.

Sound won't cause cancer or heart attack. The fright from a sudden and loud sound might cause an heart attack ; a very, very low and powerful sound might cause you to skip an heartbeat (Like the bass at a rock concert) but I doubt it'd kill you.

High frequency sounds, like feedback, would mostly hurt your eardrum and the attached sensory system.

The auditive halucination might be due to the sound ; the tiredness could be related to the stress caused by the event (I alway get tired after a good startle). I don't realy have an explanation for the visual hallucinations, but they're probably not related to your inner ear.

The sensitivity to sound (And the hallucination) is just your earring recovering from the blast. It shouldn't take more than a day ; otherwise, you should consult a professional. I'm like that after a night at the club or a walk through an E/R.

But you won't catch cancer from a fricking sound blast.
