Hey, I'm sort of new here (just read messages for 3 months before registering). Anyway I've made a website about my patrols and thought I'd give you guys a preview of sorts.
December 8th, 1941
05:00- Otto (our Cheif Engineer), Karl (our sonar operator) and I agreed that we must take our chances and surface for air and batteries on the way to Gibraltar.
05:16- We've surfaced but after seeing many ships not seen with the periscope, we dove to periscope depth. I believe I saw the Flower Corvette and V&W Destroyer turn in my direction, Carlewitz (our Watch Officer) agrees.
05:20- I'm watching the V&W and Corvette move steadily in our direction, then...PING PING PING. I swing around and see another V&W going only metres away from us with depth charges. No damage...we were lucky.
05:23- I fire both my stern tubes at the V&W as it goes up my port for another run at us. The first misses while hes turning...the second hits, they erupt into flames and sink.
05:24- A Hunt I Destroyer comes out of no where and depth charges us, the V&W and Flower Corvette sit outside waiting for us to make noise.
05:28- A torpedo away at the Hunt I just as Karl tells me of another contact. I confirm with the periscope a Tribal Destroyer incoming and there no less then 5 Elco Torpedo Boats beaming the water with lights.
05:36- They proceed depth charging, however in the wrong area, at least +1000 metres away. We may live another day.
05:42- They expand their search area, trying to avenge their fallen comrades. We hear pinging on our U-boat but they still can't find us.
05:44- Karl reports another contact. It's another V&W coming from the East!
05:56- The pinging becomes distant and the Allied vessels become satisfied with their 4-6 depth charge runs. They begin moving back to their patrols.
06:00- We must now go to Gibraltar at 3 kts as anymore could finish our battery. Were not trying that again.
I'll post the address when I finish updating my crew roster and new IXB specs.
