Definately a strange place to post these pics, but I'm not really a member of any other pointful forums, so I might as well post them here. Some of the other topics are pretty strange too :D
Here are the cars I'm using so far. I don't tend to buy that many since any of them will do, because of the stupid pacing :damn: :

Yeah, a rather glaring omission when they've got the Chevy Cobalt SS in there. I also don't see a BMW M5, and I'm wondering if that Caddy CTS is the regular model or the Corvette-powered CTS-V.

I may not have an impala SS, but I do have a LS which is close enough for my wallet ;)

Hey I only pulled the list from one of the unoffical sites... damn this game looks like a beauty. Can you guys give your opinion on realism or is this just another souped up arcade driving game?

Hey I only pulled the list from one of the unoffical sites... damn this game looks like a beauty. Can you guys give your opinion on realism or is this just another souped up arcade driving game?
As one Canadian to another, I shall give you mine ;)
It is a strange beast EA North has breed with combination of the old Need For Speed series and the newer Underground series. It has all of the weaknesses of both and very few strengths of either. If it is realism that you are looking for, then you will be sorely disappointed. The game utilizes arguably one of the most irritating features of the Need For Speed Underground racing series (possibly the original Need For Speed series too, I've never played them) and that would be pacing or "Catch-up" as they have labelled it.
Basically, this feature makes it so the AI never gets too far ahead of you, nor too far behind you. No matter what car type, what upgrades you've made to it, you can beat pretty much any race in the game with any car you like with a decent amount of skill. Not to say that one can't lose, it can't definately happen. You just have to screw up a great deal in a single race, that's all. Hence you won't find any kind of difficulty setting in the game, since there would be little point in having one. This feature alone is very disappointing. It grates on my nerves to no end that a police cruiser can manage to keep up with my Gallardo at 350 km/h on the highway.
However, that aside the game is fairly entertaining. There is the main career to progress through, which will keep you occupied for quite some time if you make sure to play all the events and complete all the milestones before you challenge one of the Blacklist rivals. On top of that, additional stuff can be unlocked through Challenge mode which is seperate from career and has 69 different challenges which escalate in difficulty as you progress. The final challenge is available only to those with the Black Edition.
Free roaming is basically the same as it was in previous Underground titles, with the addition of not having to drive around to various events if you are not inclined to do so. You can simply bring up a list of events and jump there, if you wish. A needed addition, most certainly that was missing from the last game. Personally, I'm somewhat disappointed that there is no longer much point to free roaming since there is no bonuses or extras to be found as there was in previous games. I liked to explore and get a small reward for getting into every nook and cranny on the map, but I suppose they may not have had the time to scatter goodies on the map or felt it may have un balanced the game.
Police Pursuits are the latest feature to be thrown in to the mix. They are definately a welcome, if difficult, change. You won't be able to tear down the streets at 100 km/h anymore without getting a cop trying to bust you. The difficulty of the chases are measured in "Heat" levels. The higher the level, the more aggressive and numerous the police will become, eventually involving roadblocks, spike strips and helicopters. The vehicles chasing you will also evolve but that makes little difference in the end due to the above feature (except in the case of the SUVs). Physics and realism definately take a hit in this department, since your car is invincible and the police are not. There is an option to toggle damage on visible damage to your car, but it is eye candy and nothing more, since it has no effect on your car's performance. It's also worth noting that you can slam into a roadblock and send a cruiser flying fifty in the air or more depending on how fast and what angle you hit it at. Most definately a relaxed physics engine I would say.
It's also worth noting that there are various "Pursuit Breakers" scattered all over the map, that will destroy any police who are chasing you when you run through them. The police are stupid enough sometimes to activate these themselves. For example, you can hit the support beams on a water tower, and it will collapse destroying any police vehicles that touch it, but miraculously leaving your car unharmed (but sometimes, trapped) if it collapses even directly on you. Still, it is a nice touch sometimes, as the game camera kicks in to give you a view of all the metal carnage.
Graphically, the game is pretty much one would expect from a game that has to stand, at least partially, on eye candy. There are a dozen sites with good screenshots, plus the ones I've posted before that give good examples of the graphics. In my opinion, they are excellent and serve there purpose quite well. I especially enjoy the increasing blur as you go faster, it helps to add to the illusion of speed. Even on low end systems, you could get this game working without trouble. A myriad of graphical options allows users to configure their game for their system and what it can handle. I wouldn't recommend anything below the recommended specifications though, or the game could get pretty retro looking.
The sound is pretty much the same system used from the Underground series, a mix of different artists played either in the driving portion or the menu. You can configure which songs are played when in the options menu. They also have an interesting tension theme when you get into a police pursuit. All in all, I found the music fairly decent but for some reason the labelled change song key doesn't function, and alot of the time there is no music playing either. Hopefully this will be fixed with a patch.
Customization has been stripped down considerably compared to the last Underground game. Very few things this time around are customizable, and there are very few extras you can add to a car, besides performance related upgrades. You can change the paint, of course but the color palette seems to have been axed alot. For example, while the main body of the color can have either gloss, metallic, or custom colors, there is only about 60-69 colors in each category. Other items suffer even more, like custom gauges. There is complete lack of yellow on the gauges, and only 9 colors (if I remember correctly) to choose from. The vinyls suffer a much similar fate, you can only apply a single vinyl at once on any one car. So your usually stuck with a body vinyl, or one on the sides or the top of the car. You can't have both. I'm not sure why they made it this way, but it really limits the look of your car, especially when it comes to online play. Overall, you can change the different paints, spoliers, rims, body kits, hoods and roof scoops. Window tint can also be changed, and rims can be painted of course.
In summary, this game most certainly could have used a few more rounds of polish before it left the womb, but it's coming out kicking, no doubt about it. The game is quite entertaining, most especially the police pursuits. The game uses some pasteled sorta FMV for progress during most of the career and it is well done for the most part. One simply can't refute the fact that Josie Marin is hot, pure and simple. If you can't put aside it's shortcomings and problems, the game will definately last you awhile. There is plenty to do and lots to see. Apparently, a patch is already being worked on to iron out the pacing problem, so that would be a major step forward and would really improve the game, but in the meantime handling is really the only meaningful specification you have to worry about. The rest really don't make a difference. The game really has a nice assortment of cars on top of that. Graphics are good, audio is decent and it's fun. Not much else to say. I haven't tried the online play yet and I'm only about 50% through the game (according to the career summary, anyway).
I hope this is what your looking for Hellcat. :)
And for anyone else who manages to make it this far, congratulations, you actually have an attention span! :D

Well that was certainly informative thanks!, that "catch-up" feature sounds like a big letdown to me. I'd rather have my skill make or break a game than some artifical "even playing field" running the show.

No problem! :)
Yeah, the catch up is a right pain in the butt. Hopefully the next patch will let us turn it off in career mode.
And to continue on our little saga here, :) I'm about 60% done the game. I've upgraded to my lovely little "Silver Bullet"

Police pursuits are a great deal like gambling, once you start, you simply can't stop! :o You start small, a few local cruisers chasing you, and next thing you know you got half of the PD on you and a helicopter for good measure. Yup, you could stop at this point having levelled half the tollbooths, signs, traffic and a good chunk of the PD's cruisers and SUVs but wait! If you keep going, you get even more bounty. Argh. Decisions, decisions. :hmm:
Unfortunately for me, I've gotten very high bounties only to be busted moments later, usually by being surrounded by about six or seven SUVs. It's like 9 am here, and I haven't slept yet and I haven't really accomplished anything in the last four hours except getting busted over and over for being greedy :D
Still, I do have a brand new single pursuit bounty record:

Well, you learn something new everyday (or in this case, several things). I kinda got bored (sortof, anyway) so I made a little clip of my first encounter with the Federal authorities  on a police pursuit. Pretty interesting, only about a minute or so long. It's only about 13 megs. Have a look: http://www.fileupyours.com/files/8987/nfsmw1.divx
Note: You will need DivX to watch it. My driving kind of went to hell soon as I switched it to start encoding it. Kinda hard to drive at 11 fps but I didn't too bad.
I definately wouldn't want to be the fellow in that first SUV. :o

Hmm. So I'm guessing I should let this thread die then? Not racing fans, huh?
Ah, well. I actually had more fun making the various videos I'd accumulated over the last couple of hours. Real wacky ones. That game has one seriously wacked out physics engine. I'll tell you that much!
