Engines compartments

Whats the use of putting more men in the diesel/electrical engines compartments, above the basic minimum for running the engines? It doesn't seem to improve ship's speed or anything...

Hi

I feel that it does affect speed. The more skilled the crew / officer the faster your boat will get to it's top speed and the faster you crew will react to your orders.
