Either I am on to something or I have simply overlooked the obvious and I am confusing myself :D I also have not thoroughly tested this, it was something i noticed when I first installed the game a month ago and haven't bothered to look closely at until now. it is the "AUTO UPDATE " button. The TDC system used in SH3 is a more accurate a representation of U.S. submarines of WW2. The system used by SH2 was closer to the German TDC AFAIK. The U.S. system had the advantage of being able to track a target after the initial settings were entered so that as the subs course/position changed the information was updated. Not so for the German TDC, once your course changed you had to recalculate. I have gone back through a number of the threads but I do not see this mentioned anywhere. I think this ability is modelled in SH3 but it is separate from Auto TDC. It also only seems to work from the Conning Tower TDC inputs. Once you have the information manually input into the TDC, if you are in the conning tower, click the Auto Update button off and on. The gyro angles and the AoB change as your course changes. You can link the UZO/Scope to the TDC to update gyro angles by itself, as is the method many people use already, by turning the manual input button on the TDC off and on. Using fast 90 targeting still limits your u-boot to a set course. When you turn Auto update on, the TDC adjusts AoB but that change is not updated on your notepad, the gyro angle does update below the pad.
Has anyone else noticed this? Is this actually tracking the target or just wishful thinking?
