Probably dealt with in other threads but couldn't find them so here goes:
All of a sudden, the game stalls after 'Checking protection system'. Absolutely nothing happening, can't ctrl+alt+delete to desktop either. Until now, no probs whatsoever, except a couple of sudden CTD's and I've been playing this since it came out. Any ideas what this could be? Of course, I could make a full clean install but still hope there's an alternative or at least an explanation available. Could installing the latest Detonator's 81.xx have done something (while in port, virus scanner off) to do with this?

I had the same problem. I replaced the movie folder (SHIII/data/movie) with a new movie folder and it solved the problem. Apparently the file had become corrupted. When I installed SHIII, I copied the orginal data folder to a DVD so I coule access the orginal files.

Maybe. I had the same problem on my old PC, for me the solution was to delete the videos from sh3\data\movies.

OK, thx- I'll try those ASAP. I don't think that it's actually a driver issue, since Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood and CoD2 run just fine with it. Something else is porked. Did a complete reinstall, switched between old and new drivers and same crap continues. Either it's the movie folder or then the DVD- it looks a little scartched in fact. 'Sigh' When are they going to make drives that don't ruin your disks. Wouldn't be the first time
So what your'e saying is to just uninstall the movie folder and the game could possibly run OK? Sounds weird.

Sorted. The movies were corrupt indeed, deleting the folder did the trick. Muchos gracias, companeros :sunny:
