I have just bought this game, and I am trying to come to terms with it, phew!

I am attempting to play as real as possible from the beginning, and have d/l "Patos Bearing and Range mod" as suggested in "Wazoos manual plotting tutorial". This is the only mod I have so far in the game.

My problem is that when I access the map after making my first observation, I can see the green image of my "targetted" ship on the correct bearing. However once I have zoomed into my sub, clicked on it with the ruler, and zoomed out again, the image of the "targetted" ship has dissappeared, making it impossible for me to plot the range.

I must be doing something wrong, can someone please help me.

Cheers

On checking again, I have noticed that the green images of spotted ships are fading away whilst I am on the map.

Sounds like you are trying to target ships that BDU have reported as being sighted...not ships that you have detected yourself.

FYI...unless you are doing a training mission or something the green ships are neutrals anyway. Go after the red ones...not green.

Do you have the realistic navigation map disabled in realism options? I forgot what it's really called, but if you have it disabled then all nearby ships will show up on the overhead map. If you're going for realistic, it's gonna have to go, and besides it gets in the way of your plotting as you have noticed.

I am currently doing the Naval Academy training missions.

When the Radio man tells me there is a contact, I locate it thru the periscope and try to follow Wazoos tutorial points.

I found the torpedo section of the Naval Academy to be rather hard.

In fact, I was unable to sink all the ships in that section until I had played a career for a while. Most of the time in a career you are just trying to line up a single ship under fairly predictable circumstances.

Then I sort of was on a mission to sink all the ships in the tutorial (using manual targeting.) I had to come up with this whole strategy beforehand. "First this ship, then this ship, then this ship..."

And even then, I missed that darn ship the scoots away on you when you launch a torp. at him! (got 'em all in the end, tho.) ;)
