View Full Version : What happened to The Avon Lady.....'s avatar?

Where has that tough kevlar helmeted steel eyed Sabra (= slang for Israeli-born Jew) gone? I suddenly see a young shy friendly girl, that seems to have enlisted as a 'Kriegshilffreiwillige' (war aid voluntary) . Although far too young to fit the caption: "Über mom", the cap seems to match the language...

I think you have some explaining to do, TAV. Or did Neal harress you(r avatar)?

Another important point is: will this new avatar affect her postings?
We all know that our authority on this forum is directly related to our avatar and rank. One word of an Admiral carries more weight than a long posting from a Medic. Ever seen a Bilge Rat convince a Sea Lord? Haven't we all be scared to death by the tough look of those old salts?
So what will happen to the postings of The Avon Lady? Will this sweet little girl get soft on Muslim extremism, will she continue to throw her links around like lightning flashes? Will we still take her serious if she does? Or will we say: "Here's a hot chocolate and a lolly for you and go to bed early (after brushing your teeth)"?

:D

Figure out who is pictured in the avatar and most of your questions will be answered.

Now, you're gonna lose a lotta sleep. :smug:

EDIT: ..... but if you don't, don't forget to brush your teeth. :88)

Any history buff out there who can help me solving The Avon Lady's riddle?
Is it Eva Braun or Anne Frank...?

I guess I know, the famous Jewish undercover agent who was dropped with a team of Jewish agents by the Brits to try and save Hungarian Jewry in the period before the Germans took over fromal controll of the country. I think her name was Shemesh or something, I think Naomi Shemesh. She ended being shot by the Gestapo, her mission failed, but some of her male companions survived. I can't find the book I need at the moment, so it's a guess. A movie was made about her several years ago, starring a Dutch actress...

In the early days a kubbutz was a place that made boys into men (and girls too...) Only after September 1970 life turned soft and things went downhill. That's what our hippy-politicians experienced...

But perhaps you have a point (http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/biography/abzug.html).

No, the last time I worked on a Kibbutz was in August 1970. It was hot (in the Negev), life was hard and work was uphill, and there were no Dutch politicians in sight...

I would be very hesistant to suggest any causal connection there, Sixpack. :D

But most Israeli's will agree that shortly afterwards, from September 1970 - it's even called: Black September(!) - things went downhill rapidly and reached an all-time low three years later with the Yom Kippur-War (Oct. 6th, 1973).

You mean "separate bathrooms" in a kibbutz? You must be joking... One improvised shower outside the building with some wooden partitions around it!

Avon Lady prove my right by posting a picture of Golda Meir after she left the Kibbutz...

I also think that avatar fitted better the image I have of the Avon Lady. Despite not agreeing with many of her ideas, I admire her "warrior-woman" style, her deep belief in some things, and her will to live and fight for a land that must be one of the the most dangerous in earth. If all women at Jerusalem are like her, the terrorists will have a tough task in trying to scare them

But if she likes better the new avatar....that's her decission

I agree 100% with Hitman and Avon Lady's "warrior-woman" style. I also like the other avatar better. But if the new one mean's something to her, that's cool. And as you said, it's her decision

Please?

@ Broadclark1:
Tough guys, those Isreali women from the kibbutz, right?
:D
(Actually this was a few years after she left the Kibbutz, she had mellowed down a little bit and became more feminine. At this time she sometimes used a comb, make up (Avon of course) and aftershave).

This woman Avon uses for her avatar is mentioned in the holocaust book there a good story about her. There are also a few other Jewish woman that lead underground fighting against the nazi's. I finsihed the book but there was one in the concentation camp Belsen, that was an inspiration to the females prisoners the nazi tortured her then had her hanged. While everyone watched (they always did this to put fear in the prisoners) She never onced cry out during her torture or narked on others, the nazi's were thrown back by her strength. One kommado said in the end they (the nazi's) actually show a speck of respect towards her.
