New York is mine! After 8 RL hours, and countless SH3 days, I have snuck into New York, only to find it deserted. It seems a shame that the developers went thru so much trouble to beautifully model this city, yet give the gamer no reason to go there.

No military ships within 30KM, no gun emplacements, no defenses whatsoever! Make me shudder to think that our borders really are this defensless... :o

I have often heard tales of how immigrants felt in first seeing the Statue of Liberty after a long difficult voyage. Now, I think I might just truly understand some of how they felt...

Nice. Figures, the one time i go over there.. like before America enters the war.. there happened to be a driving rain that lasted like 2 weeks. I loitered in the halafax area but gave up on sight seeing. Can't see squat in a driving rain.

pretty cool. but i can't help but notice how white the statue is. really screams for a copper-corrosion mod.

I think that was just the way the light was hitting it. It looks a bit greener from the backside, although not quite dark enough.

I'd rather have some sinkable ships in there than a darker statue.

ok we'll compromise. a copper-corrosion/new york city harbor-traffic mod.

Actually, if I am not mistaken, HT1.46 has managed to populate NYC harbor...

Although I doubt Rubini did any copper corrosion. :D

I tried shooting at "Lady Liberty" (it's not that I don't like her - she was the only thing in range) but no damage.

Heh. I single-handedly captured New York, and what do you think Bdu says?

"Keep up the good work......" :rotfl:

I actually had no idea any of the cities were modelled like that, have hardly gotten out of the north sea myself. Thanks for posting the pics!

One person here mentioned Halifax, does it actually have some modelling of the city as well? May take the time to go look, used to live there and it would be interesting to see.

Try using RUB. New York harbor is filled with convoys and single merchants coming and going, and the outer reaches are filled with destroyers who don't want you to see them. I haven't tried going there, I just looked at the RND and SCR maps with the Editor.

I was using the latest IuB mod which has RuB with it. I saw plenty of destroyers outside, which is why it took so long, and I saw one tanker leaving (about 40 KM out) and one large merchant entering, although it didn't actually go into the port, it went south instead into a river(didn't seem worth it to follow)

I got into Liverpool harbor twice. Sunk two ships. Second time back (5 mos later) the two hulls were still partially sunken at the docks.

What is the key for taking sreenies? I've never tried it.

If they modeled Boston Harbor you could quite possibly sneak in and sink the Constitution!!!

Okay, I'm bias. I live nearby and I just wanted to be able to sail into Boston Harbor. :)

I don'tt think I could bring myself to sink her.

Awesome! I'd love to go into New York. But I never had the balls because I assumed there were mines all over those narrows. Did you stick to the middle? What was yer route?

SOFbear - hulls left after 5 mos - really? I thought sunken hulls disappeared after each run...

I allways go straight up the middle, where I would expect someone who was supposed to be there would go.

Not to mention the sub net around it. At least the last time I took a good look at her (My office building use to be across the harbor from where she is docked). There was a sub/torpedo net surrounding the ship. :)

you can never be too carful...

But enough about Boston, this is about New York. I say you can keep it! Down with the Evil Empire!
