Voice Command?

Has anyone tried the voice command mod from the subsim downloads section? Does it work well?

I'm not sure about that particular mod, but I have been using Shoot (a free download from somewhere out there on the net - I'm using version 1.6.4 but I haven't checked for updates for a while so there may be later versions available by now) and my customized German language template (based on some else's initial efforts, although I'm not sure if I can locate their name at this point) to order my crew around by voice for some months now - it works great and adds a lot to the immersion factor - definitely worth a try.

There were some threads about this Shoot thing a while back, but I can't seem to find them at the moment.

Ive seen it in the DL section but never tried it because ive read little or no feedback about it. So it can't be that great. Still if you try it out would like to know how good it is.

The best voice command ive ever come across was for the subim game Enigma Rising Tide. Worked really well.

I use shoot 1.6.4 also. It works great. I hardly ever touch the keyboard. I even have timed inputs for the internal freecam to walk/climb ladders/go through hatches, from station to station. You can also combine several commands in a string, eg " LOWER ALL MASTS" both scopes and the snorkel are lowered, or "BATTLE STATIONS" and the deck and flak guns are manned etc. Little things that make life easier for you. The trick is to assign every order you will need to a keyboard "hotkey" in Commands_en. Be creative.

Well, I just finished training the speech recognition engine, and I feel like a dork :oops: I have roommates who can probably hear me in here talking to myself, wonder what they're thinking. Oh well, if it adds to the game then screw it!

Okay, I just finished playing around with the program while playing the game, and feeling like a dork is now the farthest thing from my mind. Being able to actually say your commands adds so much fun to the game, I'm surprised I haven't seen this thing being promoted on this forum before.

To any of you out there who have been reluctant to try out the voice recognition: TRY IT! It is so awesome.

Me: "Flood tube 1!"
WO: "Yes sir!"
Me: "Launch!"
WO"Yes sir!"

Me: "Man the deck gun!"

Me: "Fire!"
BOOM

Oh man, I didn't describe it well but it is damn awesome, you guys should try it out.
