View Full Version : Any 'unrealistic' flotillas out there?

I'm not exactly a fan of Rub. :D
I have chores, I'm a student and I have friends, so the lack of external view and near automatic range calculation doesn't really appeal to me. I play DiD (as long as the reason for loss wasn't completely stupid), and 51% difficulty (though the lack of fuel limitation is just so I can wreck about! Will change that within a few patrols, since I normally don't go all that far away. :arrgh!:).
Isn't there any flotilla for the softcore SHIII player?
:hmm:

Yeah, pity us, because we have a life.
Really, I am in the same situation: If there is an online Navy that can live with the fact that I am not 24/7 online AND play for fun, I´d be interested to join, too!

So in other words, there is a DEMAND! :D
I may play at 51%, but I today ventured home with only a single merchant sunk, and that was veeeery lucky. :arrgh!: Hah! I take pride in lack of tonnage, right...

There are currently several online flotillas. Please check this topic for links to them. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee/forums/a/tpc/f/857101043/m/5731060363/r/6551021563#6551021563
I don't know at what realism settings they are currently playing, but maybe you can ask. Good luck.

I still prefer the stock game compared to mods. I think alot of gamers add mods because they think they have to or "EVERYONE" else is doing it so it must be the right thing to do with your game.
Yet i find playing SH3 straight out of the box is the BEST WAY toi play it.
Only mod i have is SH3Commander 2.2 which is beginning to annoy the crap out of me. MY 7th patrol and im still in a DAMN IIA?
But ive been playing online for the last week and have discovered alot of elite players online dont support any mods. These guys play it online continuously, maybe they find mods cause hassles onine, but my game is slightly modded and i was able to join there games.
We should start up a n00bs flottlia

There are a lot of mods I like, however, I stop short of making it so difficult that a game session is about as appealing , as a trip to the dentist office.

Pardon me for asking but, if you keep automatic targetting enabled, what is so difficult? :-?

He probably means that if he was to follow the rules of many flotillas out there, then that would be as appealing as a trip to the dentist office.
By the way, aren't WaW and others considered online flotillas? Well, surely not, as they operate over several flotillas. But aren't they considered online... something? :)

Erm... there is no forced view or TDC calculation realism settings in RUb. You can play the game at 0% realism if you want. I've always used RUb and I always play with external view enabled so that I can take screenshots when I'm in harbour or cruising at sea.

No, I meant the "fan of Rub" in such a fashion that I don't necessarily like an increase in difficulty, and that a lot of flotillas demand one to use Rub.

I still don't understand. RUb has nothing at all to do with increased difficulty. In fact, RUb should be a lot easier than the standard game. You said you weren't a fan of RUb, but clearly you don't know much about it. I'm not trying to upset you by saying that. I'm just pointing out that there's a basic misunderstanding of RUb if you think it is harder than the standard game. One of the main problems we found with the standard game was that it was so difficult - more difficult than reality, so we made RUb much easier in terms of survivability. On the other hand it is more difficult to find and sink ships. Perhaps that's what you're getting at. But either way, increased difficulty is not what RUb is all about. It's all about realism, and difficulty does not equate to realism, especially when games' arcade features often make them less survivable.

I admit I have misunderstood RUb on quite a few areas, as you say, and of course I understand you are not hurling insults. :know: My main and probably only point is that the general public's view is that RUb equals more difficulty in surviving and/or scoring tonnage in SH. I suspect it is okay to make the simplification that RUb in general makes SHIII a bit harder to succeed in.
Seeing as I did know that RUb isn't just a turn on the knob for difficulty setting, in the hard direction, I should have started my thread by phrasing myself tad different.
:arrgh!:

That's right, but the general public's view is 100% wrong on the survivability issue. That's why I felt the need to jump in on this thread, because I think a lot of people would be surprised to find that they survive much longer with RUb than they would in the standard game.
On scoring tonnage, RUb does make getting a really high score quite difficult, but only because it reduces the numbers of ships the player is likely to encounter. The mechanics of sinking a ship are pretty much unchanged, so it's technically not more difficult (although if you're using the deck gun it will take longer) to sink ships - just more challenging in terms of the search for targets.
I suspect it is okay to make the simplification that RUb in general makes SHIII a bit harder to succeed in.
That's an accurate statement. I like to think of it as 'more challenging' rather than 'more difficult', but that's just the salesman in me. :D

Best way to sum up those that dont really want MODS on but wish to try it all the same. Have two installs of SH3. One as the standard game the other with the mods. The standard game is needed if you wish to play online as not everyone has mods.
