Close to Dover I was detected by a couple of destroyers. After been dept charged for about a half hour I got totally disoriented and crashed into the harbor of Dover by accident... :dead: . But I survived and put to sea again. The destroyers got stuck..... :P

I'm sorry, but we can't condone the use of faulty game mechanics as a means of beating the system, or the promotion or encouragement of said behaviour.

Oh, nuts to that! Good tactics, mate!

Have seen the same happen in Hartlepool :D Was quite the scared little git till I saw that the destroyer ended up on the wall... Not only did it crash, but it destroyed itself! :arrgh!:

I had the same thing happen to me at Scappa Flo, but in the reverse. I managed to get my sub pinned against a dock and could not move....At least the POW camp saved me from a Court Marshall.

usually I try to attract destroyers when I am at other side of small islands or land by having Elco boat, land units, or planes to spot me. Sometimes other destroyers if they are close enough to detect my flank noises or starshells firing. they come toward to me no matter if the land or islands are in their way, then they get stuck onshore so I can get to pass by them. Sometimes they get unstuck or got destroyed by ramming in/out of the land. Depends on which destroyers, I had to fire some torps to destroy them in case they get unstuck and come after me, usually fletcher or sommers which are toughest, stronger hull, at least their renowns are worth more than small tankers.

Hey this gives an idea, what will happen if you position yourself as close to the shorline as possible...will the DD be able to DC you or will he back away.. :hmm:

During my inadvertant docking at Scappa Flow the Destroyers just ignored me. Guess they figured I was defecting.

I had this in Gibraltar, I sneaked in, sunk the Illustrious with a salvo of four torpedoes and dashed off.

The pursuing DD's and PT's were all over the place crashing into the shore, complete mayhem, they were really disorientated with it being closed in.
I managed to get about 30 miles west of Gib evading more DD's until the c02 got too much and had to surface,,,,,only to be bombed out of the water by a PBY, Damn!!! :x

Has anyone tried luring a DD into a mine field?

Reminds me of the scene in Das Boot where the mechanic cracks up ... "Why him" :|\

using the AI's poor pathfinding for your advanatge is a good idea, if you go tight into a large harbour careful navigation will see you through but any nearby ships will mostly likely run aground leaving you to pick any stationary target you wish.
