Hi folks,

Just uninstalled and reinstalled SHIII to make way for IUB1.1. I tried to patch back up to 1.4b and got ticked off by SHIII saying that it was the wrong version. OK so I had been mucking about with things during the install, so I put it down to either that or SH3 Commander. I rolled back Commander, uninstalled everything including saves, reinstalled and left the machine untouched while it was doing. I'm still getting the unknown version error:

"C:\program files\ubisoft\silenthunteriii\data\menu\de_help.tx t: unknown version"

:damn:

I had IUB downloading while it was installing, could this interfere?

The last time I uninstalled was to upgrade to IUB v1 and everything worked fine.

Hi,

Can you give the file properties of "de_help" - if they are different from mine i can always e-mail my working copy of it. as it only 4kb.

I'm using RUB 1.44 - althought this shouldn't matter

Could my uninstall have been faulty I wonders?

My version was created on the 14th March (& edited in sept) - which precedes yours and may be any issues that may have happened.

Hi,

just thought ... this might be the case that when people reinstall the game they may need to delete manually

c:\prgram files\ubisoft\sh3 folder

and start from scratch and letting the install create this file structure. If you didn't delete these it will use them again and version conflicts could occur.

I was wondering along these lines when I saw the dates on the properties. My last reinstall was way after June 05, last month I think, or at most September. Also I'm confused as to how I could have modified a file in May 05 that had been created in June 05 :88)

I'll maybe try another uninstall and see what happens.

hi,

you may not have modified the file yourself but a mod (and it was modified on that date by the creator of the mod) may have done;like changing the line for "firing torpedos" from enter to Crtl+enter if the mod does that, because mine is altered when i installed rub to reflect this change.

look out for an e-mail from Dom_crtr@yahoo.co.uk, and let me know how you get on. Failing this i would uninstall and delete the

c:\prgram files\ubisoft\sh3 folder (or wherever your install was!)

and reinstall and see how it goes

It turned out to be the file skulking in the Ubisoft folder in program files after uninstall. I'm back up to 1.4b, just got to install IUB and I'll be back on the high seas :arrgh!:

Ran into this problem myself. The patch checks to see if you have the correct version, your residual files still being at 1.4b mess it up.

All this could have been avoided had you searched The Community Manual (http://www.communitymanuals.com/shiii/) for "reinstall".

I'm including a notice in the next version of iub to do the whole deleting programfiles/ubisoft/sh3 thing before reinstalling.

Edit - Sorry again, I missed your post Kaleun, I had to reinstall (for the third time today :lol: ) but at least its fixed now and I'll never make the same mistake again!

I've expanded the process a little in the Community Manual...

The first two steps I've added, viz:

1. If you are using SH3 Commander, perform a rollback and exit SH3 Commander;
2. If you are using JSGME, disable all mods and exit JSGME;

ensure that after taking the time to follow the rest of the steps, you don't simply recontaminate your new SH3 installation with old "backed up" files from either programme.
