OK, I'm playing DiD, and I just can't decide on my next move....

I'm currently tracking down a Task Force( I so wanna sink a battleship) and have reached the Gibralter straights. I positive they are around somewhere, possibly in port, possibly behind me, it's stormy, and a few hours before sunset.

I've chased them for about 750 Km, via radio reports and relative heading, assuming they are heading into the Med. Sea. I slipped by a large convy coming out of the straights - Except for a frigate which took me by suprise in the storm, and we duked it out(I won).

I can't tell what hull damage I have(IuB), but started taking damage at 80m depth.

Those that also play DiD.....Should I continue to hunt for the task force, or should I make for saftey, and head back to port?

Decisions, decisions......

Is it really that bad? I mean, sure I'd feel safer being able to submerged past 80, but Isn't the port at Girbralter in shallow waters anyways? What hull integrity do you think I have left?

Oh, the indecisiveness of DiD.....I've never encountered a task force, and I've tracked this one for so long - And yet, I've finally managed to survive long enough in my carreer to get the anti-sonar coating. If I died now, well.......It would kill me....

you need to go home. You can't dive deep enough - in a serious DC evasion situation yer fishbait. This situation _will_ occur if you go into the strait, or the port, and certainly if you attack the task force. After that kind of crime I find that the only safety is at like 170m.

second - you've probably lost the task force for good. In my experience, there's no chance at chasing a task force or following it into port. The only chance is to be in it's path - they travel at like 25 kts. It's even hard to hit them with torpedoes because you need such a large lead, and they can practically outrun a torpedo that is on an oblique angle.

So, consider it a good mission. That suicidal battle with the frigate sounds like adventure enough for one patrol. Count yer stars that yer still alive and go find yer way back to port. Yer still in hot water - it will be a great victory just to make it back at all.

And remember...DiD.

btw - what year is it?

October 1941......

I guess I'll turn back.... but I will return......one day I shall wreak havoc upon those arrogant enough to cruise about in their comfy battleship, sipping tea and nibbling crumpets, with their little boot-licking destroyer escorts, allways sniffing at the heels of their betters....and......um......ok, my crew is looking at me funny now....

Let's just say before IuB was around, I still had the hull integrity indicator on.....I took a bomb off of the NW coast of Spain, and it said I was down to 50%.....but I could still dive to 120m...

If you can't get past 80, you are less than 50%!!!!!!

Not to give you any clues, or anything.....

Ok, so I slunk home, harassing another large convoy I encountered about halfway there, and when I got back to base, the patrol summary stated that my hull integrity was down to 37%! :o

Good thing I went home eh? Had I known it was that low, I wouldn't have messed with that other convoy.....
