Guys is there a potential pronlem with the game and 64 bitt processors ? I upgraded my system, now the game keeps CTD, down loaded the latest drivers last week, played the game for an hour no problems, tried to play it a week later and no go, one other game Age of Empires also CTD. Before I had a 32 bitt processor.
This is driving me nuts :damn: :damn:
Any advice appreciated.
Thanks guys.

Bill.

I think the problem is that ubisoft hasn't yet released a patch for support of the 64 bit.
The starforce copy portection only works for now on 32 bit processors so until they upgrade you're stuck playing SHIII on 32 bit processor.

The OS is the problem, not the CPU! The Starforce version that comes with SH3 doesn´t work on the 64-bit version of WinXP. SH3 (and every other game) runs just fine on an AMD64 and normal 32-bit WinXP.

Bill, I guess you´ve bought a new Board and CPU and still use the "normal" 32-bit WinXP?!? Have you reinstalled XP after changing the hardware or are you still using the old installation? Have you installed the chipset drivers? Is your PSU powerful enough for the new CPU? It could also be a RAM problem, check it with Memtest86:

Gizzmoe thanks, which version do I down load ? I had winXP Pro installed after the hardware was installed. Prior to this I had win XP home.

I have to agree with Gizzmoe on this:

I myself have an AMD XP 64 processor and the game runs smoothly on my rig.
Win XP pro is installed and everything works as advertised! SH III and every other game I have installed
(IL2/IL2 Forgotten Battles/Pacific Fighters/Rome Total War/Call od Duty 2/Halflife 2/Madden 2005/Fifa2006/Far Cry/Swat 4/Painkiller/Delta Force Extreme/Tiger Woods Golf 2005 etc.....) runs smooth as silk (and I have only a lowly ATI 9800 graphics card running the show).....it's not your processor that's giving you problems.
Consider me a very happy 64 bit processor user.....

Good luck in fixing your problems!

Unpack it, start install.bat, tell the program to write to a:, insert an empty but formatted floppy disk and when the disk image was written boot from that disk. Memtest automatically starts to test the RAM.
